if you timing belt snapped then you'd know all about it as the pistons would be shooting through your bonnet in a nice cloud of smoke.

Well that definitely didnt happen! Theres something sticking out through the cambelt csing on the left of the engine

trust me, if the timing belt is snapped, then that is a whole new engine.
so i would say its probable not,
and if it is i would snap up that offer of €20,a pair of sunglasses and a packet of Taytos..... and that would be a very very generous offer for that car
