View Full Version : Utd fans acting like fuckwits

Apparently the police left people with tickets for the home section go "sit with the Utd fans in the away section". Cue problems with the genuine fans who got their tickets by the official channels getting squashed and then attacked by police when they tried to get out of their pen.
Amazing, 18 years on, same fucking story, from both sides.

Yes but I was referring to the police opening gates to let in Utd fans to the wrong section (I can't fucking believe that could happen again in a CL tie!!) and the Utd fans who piled into said wrong section causing the crush (well, squash).

So, the United fans are fuckwits for doing what the police told them to do?

of course. Don't you know that United fans are apparently the root of all evil on this forum/according to many on this forum

I heard that "we" also caused 2 world wars and had a role in invading Iraq. I must say though I do find it quite funny at the amount of time and energy used by some on here in painting United fans and anybody that has anything to do with United-primarily Roy Keane- as the root of all evil. It's just wummery and don't bother rising to it, you'll only make a fool of yourself.

The French police are professionals & should be ashamed of themselves for their actions. You may criticise the united fans to a certain extent but if they were simply following police instructions then theirs was by far the lesser sin.

lol. I don't mean just you to not take it seriously-I mean any United fans on here. From what I can see some do get very wound up by it all and I'm not slagging anyone off for winding people up or anything. I'm just saying-have a sense of humour and take it with a pinch of salt.

Anyone who has gone to away ties in Europe will know the story here
The french police over-reacted as they thought United fans were trying to invade the pitch
It happens a lot, especially in Portugal where the Police are over-zealous
there wasn't crowd trouble, but the rep of "English" fans precedes them
Thankfully, i never watch Your on Sky Sports, but a Liverpool fan came on tonight and summed the whole thing up perfectly, while defending the United fans (who, like all supporters, probably have their fair share of fuckwits too)
Luckily a major crisis was averted but firing tear gas was a bit OTT i reckon

Where do you think I'm getting this version of events from? The BBC? This is from the horse's mouth. Plenty Utd fans pissed off with some of the tossers who got into the away section with the right tickets.

It was obvious right off that there were too many fans in the so called trouble section. Why should any fan of any club wait to get crushed against a barrier when they can get out onto the pitch. The French police over reacted based on the English fans history of behaviour. It is hard on those that are right but history is full of instances of a few making trouble for the masses that follow.

as Stevie said- the rep of English fans precedes them. Its a shame but their past will not be forgotten so easily. But at least the FA have done something about the problems. Take one look at Italy, Spain, Poland etc and you'll see how far ahead England is in dealing with hooligans. The French police totally over reacted and managed the whole situation poorly from the get go. Tickets allocated to certain parts of the ground should remain allocated the those parts of the ground not put them in wherever they would like to be. Anyway how the hell did so many United fans get tickets for the home end in the first place ffs?? Terrible managment. These are the questions that need answering IMO.

No recent hooliganism scandals in La Belle France recently then?
No?

Fair enough Pol. I suppose its ok so for any police force to then attack innocent people because they are not used to dealing with riots so they assume that when someone points out to them that they are being crushed they are in fact rioting. No one should criticise them for that at all? Is that what you are saying?

TBT- they are two completely different situations. If you can't see that then there's something wrong with you.

I'm honoured that you've taken such an interest.;) I'm from Cork and I live in Manchester now and I just realised in the last couple of months or so that I'm living in an area where alot of ex-corkonians or Mancs with Cork connections are also residing.

have to agree with you here Philby, I find it incredible that the French Police would let this happen, and then have the stupidity to baton charge the crowd when it was apparent a crush was occuring, then fire tear gas into that same area. Incredible.
Those United fans with tickets for the home end simply should not have been left in

I don't think so to be honest. When Celtic went Porto, some of the Celtic lads I know bought their tickets for the section next to the Celtic fans. They were quickly ensured that they weren't welcome amongst the Porto fans so the police moved them into the Celtic section. Other sections which had Celtic fans in them got away because of the bulk of the section being Celtic supporters.
The Lille and United fans undoubtedly clashed, hence the police moving them on. Clashing in France could be anything from a "sit the fuck down" to a dig in the head, all dependent on the police application of the letter of the law but by the sounds of things they were over zealous. Nothing really wrong with United fans buying tickets for the home end, it happens, and nothing wrong with moving them to the away section, that happens a lot too but firing them all in there at once and then tear gassing the crushed section wasn't exactly rocket science.
If small clashes or even skirmishes were happening before the game, then considering events that went on during the game then you have to say that though they did the wrong thing, the police had to move the United fans on.
Every support has its arseholes though and from what I've seen of many of the men in black, if that was them, then they went looking for a fight and they found one. That's a totally different argument for a different day.

in this day and age and after all thats happened with football riots over the years its absolutly criminal that this wasnt avoided , there should have been regulations and procedures but in place by the organising body for dealing with this type of situation , thankfully nobody was killed
