Last night RTE reported that 12% of applicants to the PSNI in Northern Ireland are Polish and that the force is actively recruiting in Poland itself.

Is this a cynical ploy to be able to say the number of Catholics in the force is soaring without actually allowing any Taigs in? Do the Poles know what they’re letting themselves in for when they go patrolling those uniquely sectarian areas of North and West Belfast?

Also, I wonder how many Poles the Garda are recruiting. With so many Poles here they obviously need people who can speak the language when a crime involves a Polish person but how would you feel being barked at by a Polish Garda? What would happen if you chose to speak Irish back to them?

I can hear the desk at 96Fm lighting up already….NEEEEEEEEII IILLLLLL!

Very interesting and could polish become the third language here.

More people here now speak Polish than Irish.

Its sure to piss off the Unionist bigots as most of the Polish are probably Catholic.

Interesting. They'd want to have excellent English to be in a police force though. Imagine a panicking teenager running up to them in the street explaining that a robbery was taking place and a house was boobytrapped in a spikey indiscernable Northern Irish pitch!

12% of APPLICANTS. I'd be surprised if 1% made it through. For a plumber, a bar man or even an engineer you might get away with it but you couldnt have anything less than 100% perfect English for a job like that. Plus they'd want to be living in the north for a few years to understand the bastards!

Obviously you have never been up North;re "understand the Bastards" if you remember the BBC subtitled a documentry on Murphy's Brewery a few years ago, to help the few million outside the Peoples Republic to understand our refined, slow speaking pattern and correct use of the "Queens English"

Most Poles get to grips with the accent pretty quick.
