ive a bit of cash on lyon because ive fancied them a few years running now.
i can actually see the pool knocking out barca ahead of barca making the final.

Yup. Seems like the race for the La Liga is the like the race for fourth sport in the EPL a couple of seasons back. No-one really seems to want it, but as long as the others keep pissing points away, it remains ON.

Lyon and Barca were just the first two teams that jumped into my head but I agree that it's a very open competition. Not sure about Arsenal this year though. They were really at it from the word go last season in Europe but they seemed to have reverted to their old ways in Europe again this season.

well have me ticket anyway as previously stated.
wengers making waves that he wont play anyone that hasnt played to date.
thats largely henry and gallas.

i could see him adopting a five man midfield to try and hold back chelsea and one up front. I would predict a chelsea mauling with whats wrote on paper. But i do believe this arsenal younger team is special.

My predict for the team is

Almunia
Djurouro Toure Senderos Traore
Walcott Fabregas Diaby Denilson Aliadire
Adey

Bench: Poom, clichy, gilberto, rosicky, baptista

my head is wrecked.
ticket problem, no doubt im worrying over nothing.
the ticket hasnt arrived via post and duplicates arent printed.
now the club said they mightn send it and collect on the day, but ive gotten no contact from them and they kept me on hold for 30mins until they fucked off at 5. i have me book ref, seat hum, membership card etc. millenmium stadium will have plenty of arsenal people, just prefer to have the ticket in me hand.

we have the two hospitality tickets so at least its less hassle for two of them.
im pissed off. but sure ill still get in even if it is a little drama.

i wont be spotted in wilton sunday night like so its all good.
see you tuesday morning or late monday night.

with the trophy??? i dunno. im giving no opinion on the game because i dunno what the fuck to expect. its a special young arsenal team but a "normal" chelsea.

..looking at the replays Mikel never really raised his hands but was guilty of a poor challenge. he didn't really deserved a red in hindsight. Toure and Cesc were the main instigators. Adebayor was unfortunate.

Ya . Aderbayor especially lost the polt.

Arsenal were great first half in fairness ,but the longer it went on at 1-1 , Chelsea were always gonna win it.

I was hugely impressed with Diaby. That's my first time really watching him and he sems to have everything. At one stage he left fat frank on his ass with a beautiful turn. That made me laugh

Oh and Drogba is now the best in the world -- according to Lampard anyway

Got to rewind it and see what happened in depth. Mikel appeared to start it off by giving Toure a wee kick up the hole (:lol!: ) and then held Toures shirt as he was trying to play the ball away, Toure in turn flipped out and the melee started. Mikel should have been sent off, Toure a yellow would have sufficed and I have no idea why Adebayor was sent off.

True, but i'm struggling to name too many better and more consistent over the last few years

Eto maybe and Henry of course

I agree. I was personally very upset watching it and was worried about what any impressionable children might make of it all. I suspect playgrounds around Britain and Ireland will be ringing to the sound of kids pushing each other with intent, screaming and shouting but being far too much a bunch of pussies to actually thrown a slap! :D

On the other hand, a media frenzy about this and a minor points deduction would be sweet.

Sky sports news reporter Craig Slater just confirmed John Terry had swallowed his tongue when he got injured but the medics managed to pull it back up.

I can remember that happening to a Milan player in the European Cup in the late 80's, either Donadoni or Albertini. They had to break his jaw to get it out and stop him from choking- all on the pitch too, if the memory serves. First thing I thought of when I saw this today.

My reflections and musings/ramblings on the Game:

First of all, Unlucky Naff , Unlucky PRF..Arsenal have a fine young team coming through there and to be quite honest I think they gave Chelsea the run around for 2/3 of the Match and can consider themselves very unlucky to lose. I honestly believe Arsenals first eleven wouldnt have given Chelsea any harder a test then the Cannoneros did yesterday...so bravo the young Gunners!

Didier Drogba is the near perfect Premiership striker...big, awkward, hard to deal with, holds the ball up well, scores buckets of goals and is only left down by his first touch from time to time.

The melee at the end: From looking at the replay, I thought that a few yellow cards would sort out the situation, it was a load of handbag swinging to be honest. Mikel especially had his hands up to show he wasnt getting involved, but still he got sent off. His tackle was worthy of as yellow though...

The Carling Cup wont keep José in a job, but the Carling Cup, FA Cup and the Champions league might...The league is on its way to Old Trafford barring a dramatic turn of events.

Lads, give credit where credit is due...Chelsea ground out that result yesterday....

John Terry is the new Terry Butcher...the kind of centre half any team would love to have..he is pure class and 100% blue. Legend.

"MiniMaka" Lassana Diarra is improving with every game, but was lucky to stay on the field yesterday after a few shirt pulling incidents...

Arsenal should have had a penalty in the first half, that was a foul on The Beast IMO.

Lampard was anonymous for most of the game, but what a strike off the crossbar

Wayne Bridge is as good, if not better than Ashely Cole.

Sheva had a poor first half but improved in the second, should have scored a third for Chelsea but hit the angle of crossbar and post.

Cech's and Terrys injuries are the difference between our present league position and being right up there neck and neck with United..Cech pulled off some great saves yesterday, notably a one handed dive from a Baptista shot to turn it round his right hand post...amazing save.

Again hard luck Naff and PRF.

Professional footballers are a shower of sickening cunts. The carry on of them yesterday was pathetic ,Adebayor should be ashamed of himself, bahaving like a petulant child after getting his marching orders. Dont get me started on Bridges attempt at amdram.

Yesterdays shameful display only furthers the image of Premiership footballers as overpaid, self important, geebags.
Those toerags shoulda watched the rugby on Saturday for an example of how to behave like professionals.

Referee Howard Webb consulted with his assistant before showing Adebayor (http://www.irishexaminer.ie/irishexaminer/pages/story.aspx-qqqg=sport-qqqm=sport-qqqa=sport-qqqid=26433-qqqx=1.asp)a red card, apparently for clashing with Wayne Bridge.

The 21-year-old, however, protested his innocence. Adebayor said: “I had just come on, we were 2-1 down and I remember that Kolo had the ball, and someone was pushing him – he fell down. He was getting really angry and wanted to exchange words with the player.

“I just ran over there to breakdown everything, trying to stop Kolo and also (Emmanuel) Eboue. I think (Wayne) Bridge came on to me. I cannot remember if I pushed him or not. At that moment, you have a lot of things in your head.

I dont know what Andy Gray kept harping on about the first Drogba goal for. If you look at the line on the pitch he was in line with the trailing leg of Senderos. He`s the one who always says the benefit should be given to strikers, well Andy I didnt see any DAYLIGHT (thats the interpretation is it not?) between Senderos and Drogba.

This young Arsenal side are phenomenal though in fairness. They play suberp one touch football, a joy to watch at times. Diaby is the new Vieira, he has all the same attributes that Vieira had and he will be perfect for the Premiership.

Mourinho as always is all about himself. His 5 finger salute into the crowd afterwards shows how much class this man really has.

Wonder what will happen with the punishments
Multiple knuckle rapping or some proper suspensions?

In fairness it was only handbags but Fabregas was very lucky to stay on. For me he should have been the most blatent sending off of them all.

I think he admitted it too

But with all the controversy about it the FA should take action

If players like Scholes and Rooney got 3 match suspensions for a pre-season friendly then surely something should happen over this

But i'm not gonna hold my breath, anyway it's Arsenal who are more vulnerable and they don't really concern me anymore

RonnyB

But Scholes & Rooney were handed straight reds so although the suspensions seemed ludicrous (especially in Rooney's case) they were applying the law. The ref did deal with a number of the players on sunday so I dont know what more they could do to punish them under their own laws.

Don't they bang on about "failure to control your players" every so often

Also, a certain Roy Keane once got banned for extra games after initially serving his original ban (the FA went to town on him after the book controversy)

anyway, they have already shown their inconsistency with the diferent punishments handed out to Rio (versus the man City no mark), Scholes/Rooney (versus Gerrard) etc etc etc so i won't hold my breath

theres lots i wana see.
i was in line with the drogba first goal and he looked offside, as i havent read a paper or seen the highlights or anything i dont know.
i also figured it could have been a spotter in the first half.
i reckon diaby was man of the match followed closely by denilson.
adeybyor was flagged offside clean through on goal when it looked to me like he was a mile on side.

loads to see and judge before i comment. loads.
all i will say was that if that was arsenals strongest 11 i wouldnt have been let down or disapointed with the team. the fact it was a fringe/young/combo team i was even less let down. fuckin proud actually.

I cant see any indivdual being punished further barring Adebayor. The clubs will prob get a fine alright.

As for the incidents you've just pointed out I wont comment because it'll just start an "oh look at the Man Yoo brigade claiming injustice just because they can blah blah fucking blah" discussion thats tedious beyond belief.

It was marginal and for once I'm glad to see the forward benefitting from it because linesmen to often give the advantage to the defenders when there is no apparent 'daylight'. Shame it was a Chelsea player who benefitted though!

On the penalty claim it would have been very harsh considering Diarra went around the side of Baptista to get the ball only for Baptista to stand on his foot rather than lose his balance under the challenge. Fair play to the ref he was on the spot & didnt delay in making his decision.

Not at all

Give me Arsenal over Chelsea or Liverpool any day of the week

They should be rightly proud of themselves for playing a young team and giving Chelsea a footballing lesson for much of the game

They weren't clinical (a problem with the club all season) and they got a bit stoppy in the end (but their opposition lack class too so i won't blame them) but they were excellent throughout the cup run

The game should have been dead at half time though, Wenger admitted it himself-Chelsea got off the hook

He wasnt off, by the skin of his teeth he was on. The Adebayor one was very close aswell, didnt really see the replay of that so I`m not sure.

On you being disappointed, well thats natural, but if United had a young side like that in a cup final putting up that kind of performance against one of World footballs top teams I think I would be pleased enough to know that the future is looking really bright.

Eboue?

A lot of people are covering it over in the aftermath and you see Toure coming out with saying he shouldn't get a ban.

Toure deserved a red, he was too agressive and started it. Mikel should have had a yellow, ..although a red was maybe inevitable after what developed.

Eboue should get 3 matches retroactively, Adebayour should get rescinded but will get games for refusing to leave the pitch. Lampards yellow was correct, and Fabregas would be quite satisfied with a yellow ....it was someway to defuse the situation by getting Fat Lampard in a headlock and trying to twist him around ...class to see though.

as for the other incidents, Drogba was onside, and there was no contact for the penalty.
Don't recall the other Essien incidents.

of course it's a certain red, he struck Bridge on the back of the head. That's a clear red card offence in football, a 3 match ban is the punishment for a violent conduct red, and he and Arsenal should be amazed if they don't get 3 games.

Bridge was struck to the head, he went down, it wasn't a Tyson punch or anything, but what's he going to do? ..punch him back?

The number one rule in football, that everybody knows is you don't raise your hands, see Reina-Drogba last year, very negligible contact but Reina putting himself in danger by raising his hands, ..and Eboue's was much worse than Reina's.

clear red. ..then Bridge grasped his head and keeled over, Eboue was leaning on him a bit then at that stage, and Eboue was sprawled out as well, but it's bye-the-bye

concersely if you watch Eboue, he tried to disguise 'the clatter' as well by drifting by and then sprawling over...
