I say fuck them.

Their spendthrift nature is part of the reason other clubs have been put under financial pressure trying to hold on to players etc.

Watershed moment for League football here but no harm to see a club trying to buy its way to success get their just desserts.

it seems to me that, like Leeds Utd, they gambled everything on the hopes of making the champions league group stages on a regular basis, didn't make it and lost their shirt.

let this be a lesson to every club in ireland to live within their means and take europe as a bonus if and when it happens

Think if that kind of money had been put into getting a top youth academy up and running rather than playing poaching players off other Eircom league clubs?

Stupid delusional fuckwits.

An Irish league side could make the CL group stage, look at the likes of Brondby or FC Thun, and set themselves up for years but they'll not do it by buying their way in certainly.

There's about a 2 to 1 pro rata ratio of Irish players to English players in the professional ranks in England, there's a wealth of talent here if it was harnessed by a few of the top clubs here.

Sweden/Denmark is where to look. The likes of Rosenborg/Copenhagen regularly make the CL.

The future of Shelbourne Football Club is still up in the air after the club were given a 24 hour extension to provide the FAI's Club licensing boby with information they have requested.

Shels were asked to provide further information after the body expressed serious concerns about the club's situation at a meeting last week.

Shelbourne could face sanctions if it is proved that they failed to comply with licensing regulations in former applications for an FAI club licence, with either relegation to the First Division or the imposition of a points penalty from the start of the new season.
