I was thinking of putting this under "Query for Hee-air-oh" but I was wondering if any others had ideas on it. Now, I can't stand the bastards but as a sports fan in general and a Spanish soccer fan in particular I'm genuinely curious to know. Been looking on Live Footy for a few minutes - waiting for Valencia to come on - and they look real crap like.

The players don't give a dam. They all have lovely contracts and don't mind going through the motions because they all don't have to play out of their skins to get a new contact etc..
Shame reallly because they have like the best players in the world and it would be great to see them flourish together. Could achieve anything.

Yeah, but you could say that about a lot of top teams; they're spoilt rich kids. They have a tough manager now in Capello, but they just don't seem to do it. Been a few years now too. As I intimated in my first post, I'm delighted, don't get me wrong. I'd just like to know what people who follow the game think.

Because in 2003, they stopped signing Galacticos on footballing merit, and shipped out some of the less glamorous (but vital) cogs in the machine. And they chose not to bother replacing Hierro.
They've been a downward trajectory ever since, and only attempted to arrest this decline when it was too late.
Think of how different it could have been- No Beckham, but instead Ronaldinho, Gabriel Milito, and holding on to Makalele, and even Campo- things would have been very different.
Viva Florentino Perez!

To be fair now, a reference to them being 'so bad' might be justified were they in the lower half of the table, out of the spanish cup and out of the Champions league.
They have lost a couple of games all right.
They are (plus or minus - I havent been checking as I was drunk yesterday and missed the game - for reasons you can google a match reprt on Louth vs Meath - bad bad time) 5 or 6 points off the pace in La Liga.
I think they played a couple of new boys yesterday in addition to losing Guti after 5 minutes or so to injury.
I am going to tempt fate here and I have absolutely no gorunds to do so bar being a supporter, again - I should nto be saying this based on the past 3 years - but the best time to judge will surely be in at least 3 months.
If you wanted to refer to the lack of silverware in the past few years, see Barcelona. For how bad Real are, check how many times they have missed out on Champions league qualification. Ever.

Not in the slightest, rather it be them that any British club.
One of my best mates and I didnt see each other for about 3 years about 15 years ago. When we did I had become a Real fan and he a Barca fan completely unknown to each other.
I have had the best of it for the previous 10 years or so and he has held his tongue.
Now it is my turn to keep shtumpf.
Es la vida.
And there is jack sh*t I could do about it anyhow!!

But Hee, I meant bad relative to their wealth and players. And since their last great season all their signings seem to make absolutely no difference.

I am disappointed to say that my hopes for Real winning something this season are dimming rapidly. The team drew 1-1 in Madrid and went out of the Spanish cup after a 0-0 in Seville last week.
Bugger.
Agreed they have the money but the players argument is diminishing whn you look at the team last night - Diego López; Torres, Helguera, Ramos, Raúl Bravo (Cannavaro 45’); Reyes (Nieto 68’), Diarra (De la Red 83’), Gago, Robinho; Higuaín and Van Nistelrooy.
There is not a lot to come back into that team either.
Raul and Guti are crocked, Ronnie, Backham and Cassano seem to be too heavy to float, Casillas can come in....
Hope these kids are some use, although from watchng gago and Higuain it does give some hope. Gago plays a bit like Redondo - that is enough to keep me watching. Just about.
What are the odds on the league or Champions L. when Betis cannot be beaten though.
Anyhow, I must return to my unqualified and misdirected hope of seeing Real win a trophy this season.
