Looks like Ole and Larsson upfront for United, who will leave out a lot of their big guns against Villa

Liverpool v Arsenal probably the tie of the round though, with Fabregas suspended I think

Looking forward to the game at Anfield on Saturday evening. Hopefully I get back from my own game in time.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Larsson play again, he's always had a great footballing brain as well as his natural ability so I can't see any reason for him not to do well at Man Utd.

Hopefully Timmy will be back for at least a place on the bench for the toughie against Blackburn . Thankfully it a home tie . I think they'll scrape it by the odd goal

A couple of teams doing well against the premiership sides so far: Swansea 2 up away to sheffield utd, forest 2 up on charlton, hull drawing with boro. Watford have taken the lead against stockport as have chelsea against the macc lads

Some mistake by the keeper to leave Ole's goal in

United played okay but i was dissapointed with the complacency that let Villa back in the game-it should have been finished earlier
I'm relieved there's no replay
Good debut by Larsson and good goal too

United are gonna have to rid themselves of this complacency fast

Odd game.

Larsson did well but didn;t expect much else of him. Went to a game against Dundee United a few years back and it was the first time I began to see flaws in his game. Certainly was time for him to move on from Celtic especially after all he'd done. Don't think he had it in him to be a club's number one striker then, think he wanted to leave that pressure to someone else which is maybe why he chose Barca. He looked good today but still not a patch on what I've seen him. He'll do a good job for United though.

Atmosphere was extremely subdued today. Villa fans in full voice throughout. Rooney linked well with Larsson but his overall play I thought was poor once again. Not surprised he was offered 10 days off and not surprised he knocked them back. Think he knows himself the form isn't there and he's trying a bit too hard to get it back. It'll come if he relaxes but really what he needs is to see Larsson and Saha or Solksjaer turning it on for 4 or 5 games on the trot while he sits on the bench. That'll get the bit between his teeth again.

Park - sometimes a move to another club just doesn't work. A fine player but just not fitting in. Might want to try keeping the shots down;-)

STEVIEG
07-01-2007, 05:26 PM
I was happy that Rooney played and he ended up setting up both goals and getting in some crucial tackles when the game was fizzing out
Much prefer him on the pitch than attending some concert or something in new York or somewhere

Larsson will prove a fine gamble by Fergie who has nothing to lose

Villa fans are loud but Christ they have the worst repitoire of small-time songs imaginable

"Who are ya" was great........

Park has been a good player for United don't judge him on the few games you've seen him play lately
He isn't 100% fit

Yeah I know that but you just get the feeling with some players that they'll never get their chance but that's as much to do with how well Giggs is doing than anything else. Again, up to Park to make the place his own but with some players you can tell straight away that they won't be there for long. Fortune for example, after seeing him play a few times you just knew he wouldn't be there long term i.e. make a place his own. Same went for Kleberson, Djemba Djemba etc. Every club has these guys though but I think PArk's a lovely player. Love to see him at Celtic.

I see what you are saying alright
He's still an important player can be a touch of the headless chicken the odd time (Newcastle last week) but that accusation was leveled at Giggs too for many years (strange to think of it now)

Yeah - that's the kind of player I mean. They'll always play some kind of part, and at the end of the season when you look at the stats you'll find it almost impossible to believe that they'll have taken part in 30 or so games but they are never the core of what you believe the best side to be and inevitably move on after one term of their contract.

A very strange game. Utd definitely dominated chance wise but never looked to have that clinical touch. Lots of chances but always someone from villa there with a block or a clearance. It then went into a period at 1 nil where villa wasted about 2 or 3 chances before they got the equaliser. Poor defending from united it must be said. Definitely an air of complancey about the game. Although i did say to myself that solksjaer hasnt done much after he has come on so that must mean a last minute goal for him. They definitely didnt need the replay

No disrespect to them, was delighted to see Stephen McPhaill pinging pin point passes and great to see wilo flood tearing down the wing. But drawing at home in terrible conditions is far removed from winning away at white hart lane. especailly as Chopra's confidence is so shattered he couldn't hit a barn door

I guess the difference between last year & '99 was United had a decent midfield back then, last years team were scared to pass the ball through midfield it seemed. Any team that relies in the likes of Richardson to chase a game is on a hiding to nothing.

I take it as an insult that he can still earn a decent wage (at least he's not getting many games) at the club when he's nothing but a petulant fuck who has'nt delivered when it matters. an awful attitude & yet Fergie still has faith in him it seems. Was great for West Brom but that is his level. I nearly puked when he threw the shirt on the ground after his goal against Charlton last season.
