I love the recent media coverage and the discussions im hearing about the severity of Alan Quinlans 6 week ban for stamping on a Cardiff player after he pleaded guilty, its all poor Alan, what will munster do etc....(I wonder what cardiff will do seeing as Quinlans stamping has resulted in knee ligament damge for the injured player that will keep him out until mid february) Christ you'd swear Quinlan was the victim here.
I seem to remember the wexford footballer Mattie Forde not to long ago getting a 3 month ban for a similar incident, in a game against Offaly and he got hammered by the media for months afterwards.
Theres no place in any sport for this kind of thing but it amazes me how different peoples reactions differ.
Ahhhhhhh I feel better now.

Firstly I think that Quinlan should have been punished because he did stamp on Lewis and that is unacceptable in any sport.
However, the stamp did not cause the ligament damage, it was a different incident.
Also it is the severity of the suspension is being appealed. There have been English GP players suspended for one week or left off completely for similar offenses this season and Martin Williams was suspended for three weeks for a headbutt recently. This is not right in my opinion, but you cannot blame Munster for appealing for leniency based on the above precedents.
The newspaper reaction piece I agree with.
