Seeing as none of the other mma heads here started this thread, I'll give it a go..........or did anybody actually watch this on Bravo on Monday night.....possibly doubtful as it was shown at the same time as the darts final!!!

Anyway, the better fights that I saw......

Forest Griffin v Keith Jardine
Was never gonna be anything but a slugfest...both these guys have been in fantastic tearups before and was always gonna be exciting!!.....Jardi ne caught Griffin with a savage uppercut and followed with a lovely hook to knock him......Griffin didn't know where he was and once Jardine mounted him, it was just a matter of time!

Jason McDonald v Chris Leben
I had a feeling that McDonald was going to take this one.....Leben is aggressive and talks a lot of shit whereas McDonald is quieter, more respectful, but is a quality quality fighter......I don't know what Leben was trying to prove by opting to let himself get put to sleep by the choke as opposed to tapping out!!

Chuck Liddel vs Tito Ortiz
Great fight......Tito at his best, but Chuck just showed how good he really is.....the man is pretty much impossible to take to the ground, and I really dont think there's anybody in UFC at the moment that could take him on. It'll be interesting to see how quickly they put Quentin 'Rampage' Jackson in with him though....hes a quality fighter, and as far as I know is the only fighter to defeat Liddel (in some other organisation...not UFC).
If Michael Bisping carries on as he's going, he might make a good fight for Liddel in a year or two......a very very strong standup fighter, and the match would most likely be a bit of a tear-up.

Andrei Orlovski v Marcio Cruz
Bit of a foregone conclusion really.........Orlov ski was fired up after losing his last 2 fight to Tim Sylvia......scored a good ko win.

Ya I watched it all except for the Bisping fight.I thought the Liddel v Ortiz fight would be alot closer but Liddel totally outclassed him.Ortiz almost looked scared of him.As for Jackson check this out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NALAeRdSkY8

He gave Lidell a bit of a hammering a few years ago but I'd say Liddel has improved a bit since then.Should be a good fight.

taught chuck could have finished it in the 1st round to be honest, it looked to me like he was holdin back, as for the pitbull, i was hopin to see a bigger challange put in front of him, i think he is the better fighter the tim silva, i think he came into the last fight to wary, if anyone seen silva vz monsoon fight ull see what a joke of a champion he is, he's gonna lose at ufc 67 and than maybe the pitbull will get another shot

i was delighted for chuck. tito is an asshole. he went up in my opinion after the ultimate fighter series<cause of his coaching skills but he still a compleet asshole.

THE ONLY GUYS EVER TO COME OUT OF THAT SERIES THAT WHERE ANY GOOD ARE , DIAGEO SANCHEESZZZZZZZZZZ AND MICK THE COUNT BISBING.

i know plenty of heads {including myself} who trained around cork from the various disiplins who would walk it{that show i mean}

nah, tito's a good guy, he showed his class even after being beaten by chuck on saturday......basica lly said that chuck is the man, that he had fought at his very very highest level and got his ass whooped!!

As for the ultimate fighter, there have been a few more decent guys.....Forest Griffin, Keith Jardine and Josh Koscheck to add a few to your own list.

I doubt very much you'd walk the show, yourself or any of the so called heads around cork.........I know alot of those lads myself, and with all due respect, mma in this country is leagues and leagues behind even the uk wiht the exception of maybe John Kavanagh in dublin (although I believe he's retired now!!)

i disagree.mma has yet to start in ireland in my opinion. the good lads in base jujitsu and a few others around the country are trying god love us.
but.......it falls into the catagory of a minorety sport in this country{like everything else behind the big 3} and the people/kids just arnt getting channelled into the right training for mma.

ufc the reality show? come off it.

chris lieben/kosichek/ken flo/forest griffen??
all showed heart, but no aparent skill.

and another thing, if you or me or any other corkman was told they had a chance to be on that show in a few months, with the prize of a million contract to win, would we turn up unfit?
no fuckin way boy. it would be up and down the rock steps and out the straight road.

on forest griffen v the other fool.......not florian, the other gymp ,who was he again?
anyway 30 seconds into that fight, none of them could keep there guard up.
the slugg is out all right ,ballsy as fuck ill give it to them, dana gave em both the contracts, the thick yank audience loved it.

brave but unfit/unskilled.

the tan{micheal bisbing} him and diageo sanchez. they are the only ones im telling ya.

Total and utter bollocks.

The fight was a joke, tito looked scared stiff and looked to me he threw the fight. Pathetic joke of a fight. Chuck looked old, tired and if tito had one ball he shoulda knocked liddel out. I was actually looking forward to it, fuckin' shite. Jackson is going to tear his head off, just like last time, hopefully liddels days will end with the fight.

i like chuck, but how the fuck is he training with that belly.
now come to think of it..........tito has the conditioning as we all know. how did chuck beat him? after all tito has more muscle mass, is fitter and he can box with the best of em...........fix i hear the fien say? maybe.

on the other hand, chucky has impressive fast and accurate combos. and most of all, REACH
i hated sparing tall rangey fuckers myself.especially if its just a tip around with no grappling. frustrating as fuck if you cant get into them.

Hell no....he's gonna be a great champion I think.........very very skillful fighter.....will be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure of being the champion though.......differe nt than going into the fight with hughes where he really had nothing to lose!

Tito spent a so called 10 months training at high altitude...while chuck obviously lived at the end of a bar drinking pints till 4am every morning training his belly to flop out.

At the end of the day though, all the fitness in the world wasn't going to help tito if he couldn't take the punches that chuck was throwing at him......and as for chuck being unfit.....that's bollox...he was flying fit, teh reason he looked like he had a bit of a gut was most likely because he was eating like a bastard since the weigh in the day before....more than likely he put on at least a stone after the weigh in.....when you've been cuttting weight, and eating very little for a while to make weight ,and then eat shitloads...then it happens...believe me.

Was a good fight, obviously if you haven't a notion what's going on then you're not going to appreciate it.......like the way chuck is almost impossible to take down.......his sprawl is absolutely outstanding, and bearing in mind that tito very very rarely has problems taking people to the matt, it's testament to chuck that tito only just about got him down 1 time in about 10 efforts.

And of course tito was wary.....he got his ass knocked out by chuck the last time they fought....and he can punch also........and chuck knows this......in fact, just before the end of teh fight, tito caught chuck with solid left, and chuck looked shocked.....then they just went hell for leather which tito was never gonna win out in!

i trained with cokery years ago .had a few fights aswell.
what ever happened with him and craig the hairdresser?.last of the muay thai training i did with that brigade was up in the okc, and also over that gym down lower john street. years ago.

in deed chuck has a great sprawle, as any good wrestler should, but dont give me any bollox about cutting weight,as i am some what of an expert on the subjuct.
what he has is akin to a distended lower belly, from eating drinking to muck, and doing fuck all lower abbs. same thing happened to the former mr o ,the great ronnie colman.
he realy isint that fit.
he has excelent accurate hard combos, coupled with long range.
and an excellent spwawl.

against tito or most of the muppets in the ufc,the truth is he does not have to be that fit.
he better start training now though. and he knows it. none of his usual bullshit with your man sitting loking at him. didint he have the pride belt, of the valetudo?

C'mere Rocky, I watched the fight, it was not entertaining, and that's the purpose of the fights.

Did you see tito throwing the punches in the their last round? Did you see the look on chucks face, pure astonished, he thought for a second tito had him only tito closed his fuckin' eyes when chuck threw a few baby slaps back at him. Disappointed, I reckon it was fixed.

FFS...why do you think Tito acted like a bitch.........he knew chuck was a better striker than him and could knock him out....why try to trade with him.....htat's not being a bitch....that's fighting fucking smart.....you know, playing to your strengths n all that. Tito is a wrestler, his strenght is getting his opponents to the ground and then going to work on them.
If he was predominantly a striker and chose to try and grapple instead, then yeah, then I might question his tactics.

Some UFC notes

******************** ******************** ******************** ****
It was the biggest weekend in UFC history and likely the biggest weekend in the history of MMA. On a show that saw Chuck Liddell beat Tito Ortiz to retain the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, UFC also made several announcements which guarantee that although this was a peak that won’t be approached again for awhile, the company is poised for an exceptionally strong 2007.

As expected, Quinton Jackson, for a period the most charismatic light heavyweight on the planet, will be debuting for the company in February. He was at all of the events this weekend and apparently found any charisma he might have lost following his discovery of God a few years back. He was one of several contracts picked up by UFC from the dying World Fighting Alliance, and will be facing Marvin Eastman in a match that was supposed to headline a WFA show last year. UFC mentioned several times that he’s the one loss that Chuck Liddell has not avenged, so if he returns in February the Quinton Jackson of old, a Liddell vs. Jackson title fight in late 2007 will be one of the big money fights of the year.

It was also made official that Mirko Crocop of PRIDE, one of the top heavyweight fighters of the last decade and the winner of PRIDE’s 2006 Openweight Grand Prix Tournament, has signed a two-year, six-fight deal and will be debuting against Eddie Sanchez in February. Crocop was not in Vegas and the decision was made to simply put up a graphic with his name in all caps and ominously describe him as the most feared MMA fighter on the planet. Without footage, this might have been the best course of action. There are many, many UFC fans who have no idea who Crocop is, and folks were buzzing with anticipation after the announcement. Crocop, despite being a killer, looks remarkably like Lance Storm, which is not what you picture the most feared MMA fighter on the planet looking like, and bringing him out to cut a low-key promo with no killing footage to back it up might have taken the edge of the anticipation.

Crocop thanked DSE (Dream Stage Entertainment, parent company of PRIDE) management in an interview with the Jutarnji newspaper in Croatia. He said he hoped for the support of the fans, and felt that this was the right thing for him to do at this stage of his career. “[I made this move due to a] wish for a change, the wish for new challenges. Until now I went to Japan 42 times in my career, there I achieved a reputation and a name in sport, but the American octagon is still a big new thing (for me). But also the financial proposal of the UFC was better. The Japanese knew they could not come close to the American proposal, therefore they did not try it.” He said he regretted not being able to fight Fedor. “If I would have been healthy and ready, maybe we would have faced each other at New Year’s Eve. Still, I believe that the chance for a fight with Fedor isn’t lost forever. Maybe we will manage to meet each other in the ring if PRIDE and UFC cooperate.” He put over Andre Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture (Crocop could drop down to 205 at some point), and said if he had to choose one to face first he’d face Arlovski. Regarding whether he’d ever heard of opponent Eddie Sanchez: “Until now, I have not. I know he is unbeaten in ultimate fighting, even though that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is a world class fighter”.
