Robbie Fowler, Mark Gonzalez, Gabriel Paletta and Daniel Agger are all set to start for The Reds.
Lookin forward to seein the new central defensive partnership in action

The Carragher-Agger combination at centre-half looks very promising indeed. While not being lightening there's no lack of pace, both can compete physically, Carragher is a great leader from the back and Agger looks a player well beyond his year with his distribution from the back and his forays into midfield.
From memory I don't recall Paletta & Agger starting at centre-half together so it would be interesting to see how they link up if given the chance tonight.
With a game coming up on Sunday against a truly pacey Arsenal side I can see Rafa keeping drafting in Agger (barring any injuries tonight) for the next two games. Agger really was starting to make the position his own until his unfortunate injury & hopefully a good performance tonight will put him back in the frame for Sunday.
I really get sick of seeing Henry routinely burning our centre-backs for pace every year. It kinda gets annoying after a while.

to be fair henry would outrun pretty much every central defender in the PL but agree barring injury agger should start instead of hyypia v the arse.

Good point, he hasn't got behind United much in recent years most of his goals have been from some distance

Big difference between idle banter and SFI bullshit in fairness there's enough mutual respect without Ren and Stimpy's input

Colin Doyle has been in goal for Birmingham in the previous rounds, it will be interesting to see if Bruce keeps him on for this one or not.

is taylor still there? i don't think he's a bad keeper, but he was absolutely terrible in the cup game last year.

Ya, Taylor is first choice. Colin Doyle looks very promising though, it would be interesting to see him play tonight.

expect liverpool to win really. probably give a few of the younger fellas a run out, guthrie etc but will still have a strong team. the league cup isn't the crock of shit it was, when u look at winners in the last few years...man u, chelsea, liverpool...there is a bit of pride in the league cup again
its a fairly strong liverpool side. bit small physically, sissoko is gone off with a suspected dislocated shoulder.
as a newcastle fan, i want birmingham to win; get the big guns out if possible. having said that chelsea have put out basically their first team so they look like the want to win it.

You're such a stereotypical Pool fan, it's brilliant.
Great antidote to Sound and all his irritating common sense and actual understanding of the game.
I hate having well established stereotypes like that upset. Damn you Sound.

what a shocking match. It's always a bad sign when Zenden is the best player on the pitch.

That's true, Zenden can only shine when nobody else is particularly bothered. A central midfielder he is not.
I thought Agger was a good shout for MOM. Very steady and composed (esp. compared to Paletta who had a poor game) and popped up with the winning goal. Can't ask for a whole lot more.
