United were pretty poor but fair play to Southend they got a good goal and defended well
My thoughts on the trophy have remained consistent
Hopefully United will do better in the league

Didn't see the game but if the stats accurately tell the story of the game then Celtic really should have won with a bit to spare.

Utd were poor.
It was a strong team on paper but the midfield powerhouses of Jones and Fletcher really set the tone: shit, pedestrian football.
Scary to think how we'd cope if one of Scholes and Carrick got injured. Giggs? For fuck's sake, top of the table and flying and it'll all come unglued the moment we have to throw in a couple of those muppets.

Fair enough, nobody really places any value on this competition but the fact is that this is a very bad loss, especially considering the team United still managed to field. Contrary to whats been said, with the exception of central midfield, United do have a bit of strength in dept, its just that those who are not first choice at the moment are not doing the business. Take Rooney and Ronaldo out of it last night and you have 9 players who have first team ambitions, they should be able to perform against a team of this calibre:
Kuzschak - I do think he was at fault for the goal, he should possibly have had one more in the wall and his positioning was a little suspect. However he did look a good keeper last year and i`m sure he`ll learn a bit from Van Der Sar.
O Shea - He`s never going to recover the form of his first season and his future at the club hangs in the balance. There are rumours of him being offset as part of a Hargreaves deal.
Brown - Solid defender but is not going to recover his place with Vidic in the form he is in.
Silvestre - I thought he was the best of the back four last night but I wouldnt have him in the first team anymore unless there was no choice, makes too many crazy decisions for my liking.
Heinze - Going through a really bad patch. He`s as comitted as ever but his touch and his confidence seem to be way down at the moment. Just as well Evra is playing so well.
Jones - Too early to judge him really, overall he looks a decent enough prospect for the future.
Fletcher - Always works his ass off and has improved a lot this year. He will be involved when there is a battle needed.
Richardson - The jury is out big time. He`s been around for a while now and for me he is just not consistent enough, I cant see him ever making a serious impact.
Smith - Fair enough, he`s not long back, from a serious injury, but he has been pathetic the last 2 games. Spent more time on his ass last night than the other 19 outfield players put together. Even with Solkajaer out he doesnt look sharp enough to use in big games at the moment.
As has already been said, full marks to Southend, they were good value for their victory. Eastwood does look a good player, would be suprised if the likes of Fulham didnt make a bid for him.

When you get to the semi's its time to start taking it seriously there are some good teams left in it but only one of them will win it

It was a funny one alright winning it last year. It got to the stage where you felt it'd be nice to get some sort of a trophy but it didn't take away from the feeling last year was a bit of a failure really in so much as we never really challenged in either of the big two.

As we discussed you only seem to post on United when they lose
you let it slip after the 2005 Euro final that you were a Liverpool fan (but one who doesn't have the balls to post about then either)
Stick to the the Combine-Harvestor rules

mourinho, fergie, houllier, o'neill, etc all seemed happy to win it in recent times tho'
1) Mourinho - Wanted to make a big impression by winning absolutely everything Chelsea entered. His squad is big enough at the end of the day to do it too but its all just self glorification with him anyway.
2) Fergie was hypocritical to show as much interest in it as he did. Lets be honest, its not a competition worth getting excited about, it smacked of desperation on his part, he wasnt any bit interested in it in the past.
3) Houllier - who cares
4) O Neill - for a guy in his position at the time it was a great achievement, why wouldnt he get excited?
