was there back in may had a great time. the sites are all within walking distance. we got dropped off at the vatican and just worked our way around. u can get a personal tour of the collesium i think they start on the hour, will cost around 12 euros, worth it in my book. the walk up to the collesium is mindblowing, as is the mussolini building. he built it to piss off the pope.

dont eat out in any of the piazzas, you will be ripped off. try and go to the restraunts off the beaten track. trastervere seems to be where most of the night life is centred. a fantastic city

Just got back from Rome, it is a great city. I would recommend you stay somewhere that is near a metro or bus stop. i was staying next to Termini train station and it was good plave to get trains and busses. The busses in Rome are very good way to get around but you will need a guide book or map that will tell you what buses to get to where.
Prepare for a lot of walking also. All the main sites are within walking distance and you will walk a lot on your trip. There is so much to see in Rome that you could spend 2 weeks there and not see everything but in 3 days you will see all the main sites. My favourite siets are the vatican, coleseum, pantheon, trevi fountain and the tomb of the unknown soldier.
The night life Rome is not great but you if you want nightlife then somewhere else. The food is Rome is great but good food is also pricey but well worth it. My favourite dish is spagheti vongolae (spagheti with clams), the pizzas are also great.
enjoy, Rome is unique.
