I did a thread about this before in the langers forum but since there is now a travel forum i thought i would start it again...
Anyway, i'm moving to Vancouver at the start if November on a year long visa. Any info on where would be a nice place to live, where to avoid... Advice on where to look for jobs, or any other info in general would be appreciated...
Cheers :)

We lived in Kitsilano when we went there. Lovely area, close to the beaches few parks and public transport. I assume you're doing the SWAP thing? If so they've a noticeboard advertising jobs, although you're going in winter so maybe Whistler might provide better opportunities - you may have left it a bit late though. For temporary poorly-paid labour, there's LaborLink. I forget the address, Main & something, Wampire might know

It's a great spot. I've been here since June on a one year visa. The weather has been great but it's just starting to turn bad in time for your arrival:wink: .
I'd recommend trying to get accomodation in the West End, a residential area in the city centre. Very handy being close to shops, restaurants, clubs, etc. as well as the beach and a huge park. It can be pricy, but I reckon it's worth the couple hundred extra a month in rent to be in the heart of things. Kitsilano is a nice area south of the city centre also. The only really dodgy area is downtown eastside, around Main st and Hastings st. Also, there's not much point in moving out too far into the suburbs which are a bit dull. There are nice neighbourhoods about though like Mount Pleasant, Commercial drive, east hastings, kerrisdale.
I dunno what kind of work you're looking for but we haven't had much trouble finding stuff. I'm temping in offices. The 500 staffing are a good agency to get with. My wife is waiting tables. Lots of work there and good tips.
There's a great live music scene. The pub scene isn't the best but there are plenty of nice spots around. The smoking rules are the same as back home unfortunately.
Enjoy.
