Haven't been but they're great people. Spent some of last christmas with some Newfies. They know how to have a good time.
When I was first introduced to them , i asked them what part of Ireland they were from. They went on to inform me they had never been. It's freaky to say the least.
There's a quite worrying drinking culture on Newfoundland though. . Even worse than Ireland

Did you ever see that documentary that was made in the late seventies/early eighties about the Irish dancing and sessions that go on there. Its really weird. They all have Irish accents. One guy had never left Newfoundland but had a really profound Wexford accent. Wonder if its still the same?

No . it was in Toronto. They were friends of my cousins. They were a bit older . It's funny cos the younger generation of Newfies are slightly less Irish in everytihng they do. So it seems like it's a dying trait/charachteristic that they have . Which is a shame

Newfoundland is the only part of the World outside the Republic Of Ireland where St Patricks day is a Offical Holiday it is a big day in the Pubs of St John's
I went there about 6 years ago, it's really nice around there. Although I prefered Nova Scotia. If you go there make sure you visit the viking settlement and take the ferry accross to Labrador, it's very remote but worth it in my opinion. Lots of singing and dancing in the pubs in St Johns, good fun. The people are warm but a bit mad
