We're in Swansea for the year and usually travel Fishguard to Rosslare and drive to Cork, but the girlfriend was going home on her own for the weekend.

We decided to try the Swansea Cork ferry, despite the long the crossing it would save the drive down and back to fishguard - big mistake! The thing was due to sail at 9pm - didn't leave until 6am!! This means she is getting to cork at 5pm today - a 20 hour journey!!! Just as well she is not in a hurry for anything. Total nightmare.

Be warned if you are travelling next year - Fly or go with Fishguard - its cheaper than Swansea Cork and I've never been delayed by more than an hour or two. Usually takes 7 hours to get from Swansea to Cork driving via fishguard compared to a 10 to 11 hour crossing with Swansea Cork.

Swansea Cork are due to get a new ship next year.

Weather affects all surface crossings.

Fishguard is a hole.

At least you have things to do while you wait in Swansea.
