I'll stump up Kathmandu February 05.

Pales compared to Kashmir but having maoist rebels looking on from the bushes as you paddled by was a little unnerving.

I was in Kathmandu in 90 when the monarchy was first toppled, but there was not much killing going on, riot police everywhere though.

yeah much the same in kathmandu but the rebels were controlling the countryside, blocking roads with boulders, closed off the valley etc. The fact that the king cut the phone lines and closed the airports was pretty cool though. was the cheapest country i've ever been in too.
