Amsterdam is a depressing place - great at first, but everyone is so fecken spaced out that it can get you down. Its like McDonalds, anything you want is quick and easy - but is not quite a 'meal'. Im sure you will enjoy it - just dont stay longer than 4 days

Depends what you want to do - the music scene is great, fantastic museums, great neighborhoods and parks away from the tourist stuff, and good day trips out of town. If you get over the redlight/coffeshop tourist stuff there is a lot to do and see.

Went to Amsterdam in Jan, 2003 looking for our son... we were hoping to find him there or someone who may have seen him. He had planned to visit after his semester was over but thought he may have decided to go for a weekend. It was overwhelming especially at night. Now understand why all the American kids want to go when they're abroad a semester. It's a beautiful place but could be a trap for some. I agree - - 4 days is long enough. www.matthewmullaney. com
