Nothing story at the moment but would take a lot more than £8M at the moment considering his age, potential and the length remaining on his contract.

Yup, any winger or indeed any young player who plays well seems to get linked with United these days (and Spurs too)

Good player though, i'll give him that

has made a good start to the SPL season, think he should see out the rest of the season with celtic even if clubs make a move for him in january,i knows its only scotland to england but he would benefit from a full pre season with a new club rather than joining them mid season, interesting story though.

So was Liam Miller

So was Liam Miller

I don't know what happened there. Ferguson saw him perform against Lyon & Anderlecht with his own eyes. Can't find them now but he raved about his Anderlecht performance.

Liam Miller was a fine player who didn't make an impact at United. As was Gary Birtles, as was Paul McGrath, as was Seba Veron and as was Diego Forlan.

Good to see Paul mcGrath admitting this week that Fergie was totally right to let him go
He also had some good observations of italia 90 and seemed to be suprised that "we returned as heroes" after not winning a game
Respect to the honesty
Great player (and not that bad at United all things considered, he still played well)

All the more reason to doubt the speculation now
I would have thought Miller would have worked too but you never can tell
Much Better players than him have failed at United
Morientes failed at Liverpool
People are now even calling Sheva a failure at Chelsea (nonsense IMHO)

I couldnt add McGrath to that bunch. He was very consistent imo.

As for Miller i think MTH said it before that the wizzard went to watch Vincent Kompany and Miller caught his eye.

And he looked a bit like Roy Keane and came from Cork
Like, Bruno Cheyrou looked like another French Zizou in the making when he got that great goal against United in the Champions League a number of years ago

If only Ferguson had listened to Cantona about a certain Cheyrou lookalike whom Cantona to Fergie to sign from Bordeaux.

with reservations
He was bitter about it for years

It's often been held up as an example of the managers ruthlessness but it's seems to have been a pretty starightforward decision really-i was still gutted at the time but i didn't know how sick the player was

Probably one of his greatest regrets but he stil managed to put together an amazing career for himself.

Back to McGeady..

he'd be better off staying at Celtic for a couple of years where he'll play regularly and can develop but if the big boys come calling, he'll leave and Celtic will sell..

Alot more than £8M.. I doubt it MTH... Look at what Petrov went for and he's been one of Celtics best players for a number of years, I know McGeady is young but he's not a worldbeater yet and may never be. A bid of £8M with McGeady telling the board that he wants to leave and he'd be out the door.. thats just the way it is..

On miller.. he's going to get his chance tomorrow to finally show that he can do it at a decent level and Ireland seriously need him to perform, he showed in those Champions league games for Celtic that he can do it and now he's playing regularly again albeit in the Championship. Ireland need to win tomorrow and Miller could just be the guy to pull the strings in midfield and create a few chances for Keane and Morrison...

oh.. and after all I've said about McGeady.. I'd still take him at United.. Ronaldo and McGeady on the flanks would be alot to cope with for any team.. Giggs's days are numbered and Park although a hard worker and jersey seller won't ever be good enough!!

is this the same Giggs who has been our best player this season?

Don't think he'll leave Celtic for a long time and if he does it'll be for a fair bit more than £8M.

McGeady was brought around the UK as a kid by Arsenal, Spurs & United. He didn't want to leave Celtic then and doesn't now.

I thought with Petrov telling the board he wanted to leave the most Celtic would get was £5M and I'd have bitten anyone's hand off for that because he was playing 1 good game in 3. Anyone who's seen Petrov over the past two seasons wouldn't say he was one of Celtic's best. MON knew what he was capable of though and well done to the Celtic board for getting £8M from them.

McGeady deserves a chance tomorrow given the form he's shown this season. I suppose we'll be subjected to Kilbane's aimless huffing and puffing though.

If we played 4-3-3 (4-5-1 defending) tomorrow we'd tear them a new one

Giggs has been United's best player this season but at his age any injury could see his career finish. I was making the point that McGeady would be a good long term replacement for Giggsy as he can't go on forever and even now, he's going to pick up more injuries and take longer to recover..

From what's coming out of the Ireland camp, it appears that Miller is going to start tomorrow.. looks like this I think..

Kenny
Finnan
Dunne
O'Brien
O'Shea
McGeady
Miller
Kilbane
Duff
Keane
Morrison

its still a team well capable of beating Cyprus...

can't say I agree with that. While he looks a useful prospect he has achieved nothing in the game, isn't operating in a top european league & doesn't look to be up to the standard of players who have gone for big money at a similar age (e.g. C. Ronaldo <cost more>, Pennant <cost a fair bit less> etc.)

On the open market I don't think McGeady would go for anything over £5-6m at the moment (and even then it's a gamble on potential). That may well change in the coming years if he progresses but he is not an £8m player at the moment in my opinion.

could be looking at United next season like this if all this talk comes to fruition...

Van Der Sar

Neville Ferdinand Vidic Heinze

Ronaldo Carrick Hargreaves McGeady

Rooney Torres

Kusczak
Brown
Evra
Scholes
Giggs
Smith
O'Shea
Saha
Solskjaer
Rossi

it'd be the best young team in Europe then without a doubt but its a big if..!!

young team apart from the fact that the combined ages of van der sar, neville and heinze will be close on 100.

I'm sure Messi , Iniesta , Saviola , Valdes Xavi and co would have something to say about that

Speculating on these so-called teams is ultimately pointless

Uniteds team next year might be a good few players off what anyone guess's
Anyway, as weak as they are , they still have a slight chance this year too
