Im not sure how sound of mind Collymore is these days either. This kind of carry on sounds to me like the guy is going through some kind of mid-life crisis. He wants back into football, but he doesnt mention that anyone has shown any interest in taking him on. Sad really.

Stan Collymore claims he is ready to make a bid to return to the Premiership after five years out of football.
The 35-year-old striker has not played since walking out on Spanish side Real Oviedo in March 2001.

But he told the Daily Mirror: "I've had physical tests and I'm confident I will come back faster, stronger and fitter than I ever was.

"A month from today I guarantee I will be able to stand side by side with any striker in the country."

It might sound big-headed but I still believe that I am the best

Stan Collymore

Collymore, who played for Crystal Palace, Southend, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Fulham, Leicester, Bradford and Real Oviedo, has flown to Tenerife to start a three-week fitness regime.

He insists he has shaken off the personal problems that have affected his career and private life and said: "This time I'm not going to self-destruct.

"You are not going to see headlines about me being kicked out of a bar somewhere in the early hours rolling drunk.

"There is no reason why I can't be back to my best. Don't forget that as a footballer I haven't got a lot of miles on the clock. When I retired it wasn't because I was crumbling physically like Ian Wright or Gazza."

And he insisted: "I went to the World Cup as a punter. I didn't see any players that made me think 'I can't do that'. It might sound big-headed but I still believe that I am the best."

the state of him! Hes fat as a fool, a month and he'll be back to his best?

Stick to the dogging, poor old mad stan:)

Tyson is doing a few exhibition fights around the US shortly, he said that he wants to finish on a high because boxing left a bad taste in his mouth.... was that not an ear mike?

I know Villa are stuck for new signings, but come on!

O'Neill plays down Collymore link

Collymore quit football in 2001
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has played down Stan Collymore's hopes of a comeback after a five-year absence.
O'Neill took the former England striker to Leicester in a cut-price deal six years ago and Collymore is reported to be keen on a reunion at Villa.

But O'Neill said: "He would need a lot of willpower and self determination to get fit for the Premier League.

"At 35 you need a great desire and I just don't know what Stan has been doing in the last couple of years."

I don't know whether that desire has returned

Martin O'Neill on Stan Collymore
Collymore claimed this week that he was ready to make a bid to return to the Premiership after five years out of football.

The 35-year-old has not played since walking out on Spanish side Real Oviedo in March 2001.

"I don't know whether that desire has returned," added O'Neill.

"He did terrifically well for me in a short period of time at Leicester. But if you're asking me whether I could make an assessment that would be a difficult call."

Collymore joined Villa for £7m in 1997 from Liverpool and made 50 appearances for the club before moving to Leicester three years later.

It is pretty laughable alright that the 'mad one' could come back....he might be able to play at League of Ireland level or lower levels of the English game if he gets himself seriously fit again, but the Premiership...after a five year absence from the game...Hee Hee Hee
