Bunch of mercenaries jumping from one club to the other - how can you follow a team? what is a team? hard to keep the interest?
Maybe, the only thing worth following is the manager - at least you can agree / disagree with his style of football, watch how he develops it - but following a team? For kids?
Now, if you are from Liverpool, or Manchester, or North London - that may be different, you're shouting for your patch - but even they must be getting tired of it - how they'd cry to see Cork Hurling.

Your argument carries the implicit assumption that geography informs where individual's loyalties should lie?
People belong to many different "tribes". Some are based on where they're from, many are not. To take one personal example, I strenuously object to being cast as a "Munsterman" because it suits the PR whirlwind surrounding a rugby team. I'm from Cork. I can stomach some sort of association with Kerry maybe even Wa'erfor' but Clare? Tipp? Fucking Limerick?!!
Thanks but I'd rather pin my colours to the Manchester mast than be a Munsterman.

yeah, before this season started we had a draw on the forum to see who would support what team this season:
Myself, Stevie G and a few more got Man Utd,
Shammy got the short straw in Chelsea,
Philby was stuck with Liverpool for his troubles,
Amadeus got an interesting one in Blackburn,
AFeenCalledDan ended up with Spurs for the year,
MON got Celtic
and poor ol Lame picked West Ham
next season we're going to have the draw in Lennox's

I am united through and through, although i did support blackburn for a brief period around 94/95. I had a brief dalliance with arsenal in 97/98 and again in 01/02.
I like chelsea's kit now.
