Both he and Holland declared themselves available and Stan decided against it, correct?

Probably suprising after these comments but maybe Stan wants to stick wiht what he has been working with
Carsley has not played for his country for two and a half years after deciding to concentrate on club football with Everton and his family at the time.
But the 32-year-old, who has won 29 caps, telephoned Republic manager Steve Staunton on Tuesday to let him know he was ready to end his exile.
"Lee phoned me earlier this week and said he wishes to be considered for selection as he has now re-established himself in the Everton first team, and that is welcome," Staunton confirmed.
Carsley may get the nod for the 7 October game with Cyprus in Nicosia and the11 October clash with the Czechs at Lansdowne Road.

Carsley may not be the most technically gifted player but he's vitally important to Everton. Two years ago when Everton finished 4th Carsley was almost an ever present in the Everton team . He missed most of last year and Everton struggled big time. He's back in the team this year and Everton look strong again. I think this is more than a coincidence. He's the type of player that gives the rest of his teamates a bit more licence on the pitch.
You may think he's shite but he's one of the first names on the Everton teamsheet every week.

The team needs new blood thats the main problem at the minute, bringing back old players like carsley wont help matters in the long run, by the time the euros come around he will be 34, well over the hill, we need to bring in the younger players now and let them sink or swim, its the only way forward.

We don't need to see the Opta stats. Just watch the Derby again. Carsley gave Alonso , Gerrard and Momo a lesson in the art of complete midfield dominance .

i said he's playing well, wtf. i've already said alonso should be dropped. gerrard ain't playing too bad, playing on the left ain't helping. i thought riise was playing well, i've been critical of him in the past. and i'd agree pool were piss poor in the derby. stats only tell you some of the story. anyway, we're diversing from the thread here.

Whats the point in using players who won't be around for the championships, you have to play the young fellas sometime, why not start now.
anyway it's only lee carsley, we're not talking about pele, he is a journeyman and nothing more.

Why wouldnt he be around for the tournament?. 34 isn't that old. Considering our options are extremely limited in that area , I think it's a big mistake leaving him out. We need a player thats gonna just sit there and there isn't anyone in the current squad who can do that effectively

It worked for France in the WC qualifiers - what we need more than anything at this stage is to pick up 3 points and I would gladly sacrifice another John O'Pie cap to see Lee Carsley play. It was his performances beside Graveson that impressed so much 2 years ago and he has started this year the same.

If the best we can manage for the euros is a 34 year old lee carsley we have no buisness going, I refuse to believe that carsley is the best central midfielder in Ireland. There has to be someone better out of 4 million not to and what about the ex-pats and the granny brigade.

Whats your point? There are over a billion people in China , and the best they can produce is Li Tie

Mentioning Oireland recalling Lee Carsley and France recalling Zidane, Thuram and Makalele in the same sentence demeans us all. For shame!

Carsley has played very poorly for Ireland before while "in great form" for Everton. He has never done it at international level so it's not really that much of a shock. However, at face value he would appear to be a better option than Quinn.
