They gave us 4 great years so I’m not knocking the effort or anything like that. But some days it just doesn’t work out. Yesterday was of the. Pfffffff….

Anyway I rate the players as follows:

Donal Og (6) If he gets lauded when the pucks outs go well he must get some stick when they go wrong. I don’t think he could have done a lot with the goal. He did make big interception late in the second half.
Brian Murphy (7) Played well and stuck to his task.
Diarmuid O’Sullivan (7) Fair dues. I thought he was rubbish all year but he did well yesterday. I think the goal was one of those things. If you take that out he never let Kilkenny have a clear sight of goal.
Pat Mul (2) A shocker. That happens. But shame on the line for leaving him there.
Gardiner (7) Obviously a good hurler but can’t keep put of the niggly stuff.
Ronan Curran (5) Talk about a curates egg of a performance. I thought at the start he was going to be man of the match. Caught a show of ball and covered in behind. But then dropped the intensity. He still played a lot of ball but clearances and passes were all over the shop.
Sean Og. (5) Started slowly, came into it and was doing well when he got the bang on the head. Very poor in the second half.
Tom & Gerry (5) Total eclipsed. Again the line needed to help out here but they left them toiling away when it was obvious that things needed changing.
Timmy (5) Another one who did ok in patches but like too many other forwards made no real impression on the game.
Niall Mac (5) Should have been moved in to full forward to try and combat Hickey. He goes missing too often for my liking even though he made the goal.
Ben ( 8 ) A proper hurler. Injured or not he has that special something. That point from under the Hogan stand in the second half was magic.
Niall Ronan (2). Anonymous. The best you can say is that corner forwards are dependent on the type of ball coming in and he didn’t get anything worthwhile.
B. Corcoran (4). Car crash stuff. You didn’t want to look but couldn’t stop yourself. I think he would have been better out on the 40 for a while as Hickey was all over him like a rash. Battled away and was still plugging away at the end.
Joe Deane (6). One point from play really wasn’t enough. Probably needs to move into full forward to be at his best these days. Reliable as ever from frees but al the pace is gone.

Subs: what on earth was that Ciaran Murphy business about? And what was Cusack doing running onto the pitch before he was allowed. Wayne as to far away from me but he seemed to do well.

Donal Og .... 8 Very calm, very composed, great interception in the 2nd half - surely an All Star

Brian Murphy .... 6 Poor clearance that led to a KK point before half time, defended well in the 2nd half.

Diarmuid .... 7 Partly At fault for the goal but generally played very well.Did a good job on Shefflin.

Pat Mulcahy .... 4 The captain had a nightmare .... Fogarty took him to the cleaners.

John Gardiner .... 6 Scored a neat point but missed a desperate one near the end when he could have dropped it in for a goal.Fortunate to stay on the field.

Ronan Curran .... 6 The Centre Back started very well but kind of faded ..... strange game

Sean Og .... 7 Defended tigerishly throughout ..... one of Corks better defenders.

Tom Kenny .... 5 Really not in the game at all .... very quiet.

Jerry OConnor .... 5 Lovely point in the first half but not at the races today.Ryall intercepted brilliantly in the 2nd half & he was being blocked down a lot ..... Fouled too.

Timmy McCarthy .... 4 I am a great admirer of Timmy as he tries ever so hard & he has his critics ..... a lot of his critics though are just jump on the bandwagon idiots always looking for a scapegoat ..... not a great game yesterday though.

Niall McCarthy .... 7 Tried ever so hard & hot a great point in the first half - Im not his biggest fan but he wasnt the worst of them yesterday.

Ben OConnor .... 8 Top class performance from a top class forward.Considering he hasnt been at full fitness this year 2-10 is a good return from 4 games.Has it all & still one of the games top forwards.

Neil Ronan ..... 5 Not in the game at all

Brian Corcoran .... 5 Tried ever so hard but Hickey had his homework done big time.He was being fouled though by the farmer 7 should have had some more frees.

Joe Deane .... 7 Scored a trademark beauty in the first half & did a lot of unselfish work .... a really good intelligent player who like Ben OConnor can feel proud of his performance.Very good from frees, missed a very tricky one.

Donal Og - 7 solid, puc outs didn't always go to plan but kilkenny seemed to have done their homework on them.Has to get an AllStar this year.

Brian Murphy - 6 not his greatest day, cleared one ball in 1st half straight to a kilkenny man right in front of goal for an easy point.

Sully - 7 Yes he dropped the ball for the goal, but other than that he cleared his lines and didn't give much away

Pat Mul - 3 Not a captains performance.cleaned out

Gardiner - 6 Blew hot and cold, scored great point and hit a few bad wides.gave ball away cheaply on a few occasions

Curran - 6 did ok but never really dominated like he has been doing all year

Sean Og - 6 had a tough time of it with Power

Tom - 5 Never got going, but he's a fine hurler and will have better days again for cork.

Jerry - 7 did well but lost possession a few times when trying to burst through the middle.great point in first half

Timmy - 5 took the wrong option too often

Niall Mac - 7 had a great start, fought his heart out and never gave up,but Tennyson got the better of him as the game wore on

Ben - 7 Corks liveliest forward, tried to take the game to Kilkenny at least

Ronan - 5 never really threatened,disappoin ting

Corcoran - 5 tried hard but hickey never game him a sniff

Deane - 6 had few chances to work with and high balls on top of his head didn't help either
