They gave us 4 great years so I’m not knocking the effort or anything like that. But some days it just doesn’t work out. Yesterday was of the. Pfffffff….
Anyway I rate the players as follows:
Donal Og (6) If he gets lauded when the pucks outs go well he must get some stick when they go wrong. I don’t think he could have done a lot with the goal. He did make big interception late in the second half.
Brian Murphy (7) Played well and stuck to his task.
Diarmuid O’Sullivan (7) Fair dues. I thought he was rubbish all year but he did well yesterday. I think the goal was one of those things. If you take that out he never let Kilkenny have a clear sight of goal.
Pat Mul (2) A shocker. That happens. But shame on the line for leaving him there.
Gardiner (7) Obviously a good hurler but can’t keep put of the niggly stuff.
Ronan Curran (5) Talk about a curates egg of a performance. I thought at the start he was going to be man of the match. Caught a show of ball and covered in behind. But then dropped the intensity. He still played a lot of ball but clearances and passes were all over the shop.
Sean Og. (5) Started slowly, came into it and was doing well when he got the bang on the head. Very poor in the second half.
Tom & Gerry (5) Total eclipsed. Again the line needed to help out here but they left them toiling away when it was obvious that things needed changing.
Timmy (5) Another one who did ok in patches but like too many other forwards made no real impression on the game.
Niall Mac (5) Should have been moved in to full forward to try and combat Hickey. He goes missing too often for my liking even though he made the goal.
Ben ( 8 ) A proper hurler. Injured or not he has that special something. That point from under the Hogan stand in the second half was magic.
Niall Ronan (2). Anonymous. The best you can say is that corner forwards are dependent on the type of ball coming in and he didn’t get anything worthwhile.
B. Corcoran (4). Car crash stuff. You didn’t want to look but couldn’t stop yourself. I think he would have been better out on the 40 for a while as Hickey was all over him like a rash. Battled away and was still plugging away at the end.
Joe Deane (6). One point from play really wasn’t enough. Probably needs to move into full forward to be at his best these days. Reliable as ever from frees but al the pace is gone.
Subs: what on earth was that Ciaran Murphy business about? And what was Cusack doing running onto the pitch before he was allowed. Wayne as to far away from me but he seemed to do well.
