Aside from that, the amount of throw-ins sanctioned was farcical. If a player deliberately kills the ball, by lying on top of it or refusing to release it, then it's a free to the other team, simple as. Fair play to Kilkenny for spotting the referees inclination on the matter early on, but from the ref's side of things it was a joke. That'll teach you to get a Westmeath man to ref SHC final.

lads, let's be fair, kilkenny had a game plan and it worked very well.
But it was bad for business if cork won three in a row,for the gaa anyway.

I fear our style of hurling has well and truely found out and maybe its time to revert to the traditional route(christ I sound like David Trimble).I wouldnt be calling for the heads of the management but wouldn't be surprised if they stepped down. Also its inevitable that there will be retirements from a couple,so is this the end of this cork team or will a new hunger be instilled to drive them on to next year? Please god the latter

Ah in fairness like. Cork didn't even look interested for a lot of it. Some of them looked like they thought they should win it by default..cos ..we're Cork like.
Although it was an entertaining game compared to the overrated foriegn shite on Saturday. Kilkenny were the better team . end of..and deserved their win.

Indeed. On the one hand you could say that they set out to kill the game, but being more fair-minded it's been clear that Kilkenny have tailored their game to suit the opposition this year, Galway being a prime example in the run-up to yesterday. They're not the first team to try and crowd out the middle of the park and disrupt the rebel half-back line, but they're the first to profit, and why not? They played out their gameplan to perfection, and we had no answer.
Certainly, the referee's stance on the quick puck-outs (not the first time this has happened) and throw-ins instead of frees assisted their effort, but that's not what tipped the balance. Hunger and tactics won the day.
Hats off to Cody.
