(or should we do this offline so that little bastards don't try and impersonate us at the meeting point - and then kidnap us, bring us back to their place and skin us alive, and wear our skins, and do horrible pagan dancing around their garden while wearing our skins and then play cricket with our minge cudgels)

yeah.

texting and pm-ing are probably the way forward if we want to avoid the whole "being tortured to death by internet freaks" issue.
