Cork Film Festival
21-08-2006, 09:04 PM
Cork Film Festival is looking for a graphic designer for a few weeks to work on the festival catalogue – starting as soon as possible.

However we are looking for someone to come on board as staff, rather than hiring a external designer. The hours will be long and you will not be making your fortune!

The main perk of the job would be that it would be a great addition to any designer’s portfolio.

The catalogue is approx 120 pages, A4, full colour.

If you are interested please email samples of your previous work to info@corkfilmfestiva l. Please include your telephone number.

Thats a big workload to ask somebody to take on with no reimbursement.

Fairly cheeky request alright, but God loves a chancer. :)
While the end product would be something to be proud of, I can see it as being a nightmare if the "lucky" designer were still fresh. The "come on board as staff" may as well read "we want to keep tabs on you and steer the ship in every direction." But I don't think they say you won't get paid. Sounds like you won't make a lot.

Lots of big companies do this kind of thing. they wont pay for design of lets say a new corporate identity, so the have a design "competition".
Hold a fairly cheap awards night.

Great way of getting a top notch design for almost nothing.
Im not against it but its a hell of a lot of hard work.

I wouldn't be too against this...

Whoever decides to take the gig, then all they have to do is make sure that they are entitled to put in their contact information etc. on a number of pages...(inside front cover, rear cover etc.)....say if there's 10,000 programmes distributed, then that could be an easy way of advertising...

I presume you've put a notice up in the CIT...Considering that there's a graphic design course..plenty of students there in about 3 weeks time when they're all back from holidays...

The reason we need someone to 'come on as staff' is that the timeframe is extremely tight and therefore the designer would not have much/any time to work on other projects.

It is a salaried position.

All staff, including designers, are individually named in the catalogue.
