Personally I'd prefer if Gerrard didn't get it. There is so much bullsh1t & pressure associated with being England captain that he could do without. I do think he'll get it though. He has got more international experience than Terry and has yet to get caught doing the dirt on his fiancee 15+ times or getting sucked off in the back of his car by a teenager.

ENGLAND FANS POLL

John Terry 51%
Steven Gerrard 46%
Gary Neville 2%
Frank Lampard 1%
David Beckham 1 vote

England's new captain will be announced at 1500 BST, the Football Association has revealed.
Chelsea's John Terry and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard are the favourites to replace David Beckham, who quit as skipper after the World Cup.
A poll commissioned by the BBC Sport website and Radio Five Live revealed that England fans were divided over who should be the new national captain.
Terry gained 51% of the votes, Gerrard polled 46% and Gary Neville got 2%.
Frank Lampard was fourth with 1%, and David Beckham gained one (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4778685.stm#) vote.
The poll was of 371 members of 'Englandfans', the official England Supporters' Club.
Mark Perryman, an active member of Englandfans, conducted the poll on behalf of BBC Sport.
He said: "The 371 members we polled are the ultra-dedicated fans who travel to watch England home and away.
"The results show there are two outstanding candidates for the captaincy, but that this will be a very tough decision for Steve McClaren."
Chelsea skipper Terry is the odds-on favourite with the bookmakers, with his Liverpool counterpart Gerrard close behind. Beckham stepped down as England captain a day after his team were knocked out of the World Cup quarter-finals by Portugal. The midfielder had been skipper for six years after being handed the armband by stand-in coach Peter Taylor in 2000.

Hehehe, you'd have to wonder what the 1% who voted for Lampard were thinking, good player, but has no influence on teams in the way Terry and Gerrard do.

ha ha ;-) I'm actually a big fan of Terry if I'm being honest. A real old-school defender who'd put his life on line to avoid conceding.

I'd love to see Gary "shop steward" Neville get it - would be funny to see the media tear him to shreds if things started going badly or if his place in the side was under threat.

John Terry should be England Captain. I think Chelsea are brilliant and much better than Liverpool.

he'll be useless! they need someone who cries when they inevitably crash out, sure that's the funniest part of any tournament

I'm pretty sure he was bawling when Liverpool dumped Chelsea out of the CL and think I may well have seen him crying when Portugal beat them this summer. He's well up to the task!

Crying in sport is a bad thing.

It is, however, acceptable to cry when your national team is knocked out of the WC.
