Its that time of year again and after carefull consideration I have gone down the following route:
There is no value in Thierry Henry at 5/2 this year. He will probably win it again but the price is way too short.
Sheva at 5/1 is interesting if only for the sale of Crespo and the lack of strikers at the bridge. Surely José will buy another before the transfer window closes? If not then Sheva could be playing a lot of games and would be worth a ton on the nose.
I searched http://www.oddschecker.com for the best odds available and these are my selections:
____________________ __________
Jimmy Flyodd Hasselbaink (Charlton)
100/1 (1/4 the odds top 4)

€10 ew
____________________ ____________________ ___
Berbatov (Spurs)
25/1 (1/4 the odds)

€25 ew

it'd be handy if you do it like top goalscorer excluding henry cos lets face it hes probably gonna be top dog again.
if keane loses his spot at tottenham...which i feel he will then id say defoe(only if he was guaranteed 1st team football)
saha? ameobi?

BBJ is a good bet for top scorer in the Championship. Have him at 16s but could be gone in.

Well he's in form which is the main thing
I can see them buying martins from Inter though, another player who can do damage when he gets going

Thought that might have went though with the Crespo deal
He's a good player think he's a bit too different to Chelseas play though, he's more in the Henry mode

Personally Tevez would be my player of choice if I had to choose one for Chelsea...He would fit in well as a second striker .....

if keane loses his spot at tottenham...which i feel he will then id say defoe(only if he was guaranteed 1st team football)Berbatov will be the main striker at Spurs this season barring injury and/or any other unforseen disasters. All things being equal, he should be the top scorer at the club. Keane and Defoe will be expected to play a bit deeper when selected, I would say.

That'll suit Keane who naturally drops deep to link play anyway but imho this won't get the best from Defoe.
He looks at his most dangerous when in behind defences or in one-on-one situations with defenders. He could profit from Berbatov's aerial ability if he's allowed to push on further but would be wasted in a deep role imho

Defoe sees himself as an out and out front man but Jol prefers to have a more physical player in that position. I think this will be the make or break season for Defoe at Spurs. If things don't go well, he'll be off. It might even happen in January.

Keane was excellent playing deep at Highbury

think leroy lita could do quite well in the PL,important though for reading to get off to a wigan-like start.
also bellamy should help himself to a few goals.
normally cant see past henry but think ill be putting a few euro on sheva.

where's Henry at though> - he had an Ok world cup, he fluffed a great chance in Euro final - will he go back to business as normal in UK?

Sheva at 5/1 and Ameobi each way at 100/1 are decent bets imo

It was a thought (as opposed to a gotcha) based on Capt Planet and Philby's posts.

While i don't think Sheva is past it, i can't see him finishing top scorer this season. Firstly, i can't remember any one individual player in a Mourinho team scoring the bulk of the goals and also he'll have to beat Henry who if he stays injury free will be 20-25 yet again. Bellamy is in the same boat as Sheva in that i can't remember any player in a Benitez team carrying an excessive goalscoring load. So ya, Henry at a canter or an unexpected name from a team on a hot season (e.g. Stewart, Beattie, Bent etc. in the past) -AmadeusDC-

Sheva's on a different planet to Morientes.
Morientes was only ever really successful in an average league ( France). He never did in Spain or England .
Whereas Sheva has been one of the greatest ever forwards in Serie A and will go down as a Milan legend.
And 19 serie A goals last season alongside Gilardino's 17 is hardly a poor return

No-ones mentioned Rooney who has been edging toward 20 in the last couple of years
Don't think he'll make it this year though
Saha once got 20 but is unlikely to be fit for the full season
United, Liverpool and Chelsea are likely to find their golascorers from various positions
Henry looks a shoe-in but if he gets injured its interesting

If Berbatov settles quickly and keeps his place he really should be getting the majority of Spurs's goals and should be challenging Henry. I wouldn't be bothered having a bet on this market though.

Fuck waiting 9 months for a return on my moneyAh, the antepost bets are good fun too. It means you're cheering on a team/player for the season. I had a nice return on my each way yankee last season. I couldn't spot any decent value this time around though so I didn't bother.

Revisionist bullsh1t. Morientes was very successful in Spain & has proved himself in Europe and internationally.
Scored 72 in 112 starts for Real & 3rd highest goalscorer for Spain (27 goals in 43 games) despite playing second fiddle to Raul in both sides
3-time champions league winner
2-time spanish league winner
Did as much as anyone to drag Monaco into the 2004 CL final

Firstly I was only making this point because somebody was comparing Morientes to Shevchencko, which is ridiculous.
As for the point of being successful in spain, his 72 goals came in 182 games. Which is decent, but he was ever only first choice for Real in his first 2 seasons there. After that he was always considered 3rd or even 4th choice at the club.
I'm not saying he was a bad player , I just think that he was never top class , like Sheva which was my original point.

IMHO I think his performances for Real, Monaco & Spain are enough to indicate that he was world class. That's just my opinion.
