Tottenham Hotspur new boy Didier Zokora has his sights set on becoming the latest in the line of great Premiership holding midfielders.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international impressed at this summer's World Cup in Germany and earned a lucrative move to White Hart Lane at the same time.
Zokora comes into Spurs' ranks to replace the departed Michael Carrick, who moved to Manchester United last week, but the player hopes to prove himself more than just an adequate stand-in at his new club.
"Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira are the perfect examples of the star players that have played in The Premiership over the years," Zokora told the Sun.

"That is what I really want to be part of because the holding midfield is also my role, and I believe it to be very important because I can win the ball, pass it, tackle and this is vital to the balance of any team."
He will get his first chance to stake his claim for glory in the first game of the new season at Bolton Wanderers live on Prem Plus on August 19.

"I'm setting myself up for a fall" - ZokoraRun along now philby and worry about your own team. Make a judgement on Zokora when he's played a good few competitive games for Spurs.

i keep expecting these africans to be the next Djumbo DjumboThat's a bit of a silly statement. Come on RR, I'd expect better from you. That's like saying you expect every Irish player to be like Liam Miller.

Ah sure I'm only stirring. He may well go on to be a great player for Spurs but if I was a new central midfielder to the prem I'd do my best to never mention the likes of keane & Vieira in public until I'd have proven myself for a number of seasons.

I did notice that, that's why I said "mention...in public" as opposed to "compare". Mentioning those guys is just bringing trouble onto yourself, the papers were always going to pick up on it.

Now if he actually did say he fancies himself as a Vieira then that would be different.

Crouch, Gerrard etc have been bigging themselves and their club up all summer
Does that mean they are idiots if they don't win the league
No

This guy is the same

If Crouchy came to England and started talking about Shearer, Henry & Bergkamp and how he wants to be part of that group I would think him a bit foolish to be honest.

Gerrard has proven himself at the highest level. If he feels the need to big himself up then grand, he'll probably be right. He's an amazing player. He has nothing to prove.
