But I bet the ref won't put it in his report.

Ferguson said it was harsh, I thought it was spot on. He went up deliberately to hurt the guy. They can have no complaints.

He wasn't even loooking at him it was an innocous (sp) challenge and the player dived around like he was hit by a bullet
If it was anyone else it wouldn't even have been a card
Ole had just got elbowed before that
A joke of a decision but Rooney is gonna have to remember that certain players carry a reptuation and are treated differently
It happened with Roy Keane and Viera before and now it's happening with him
Scholes was very clumbsy and deserved to go
As i mentioned in another thread the same thing at the Amsterdam tournament a few years ago with two Liverpool players and it wasn't reported so they should be okay for the start of the new season

Wayne Rooney admits he was baffled by his sending off against Porto in the Amsterdam Tournament.
The Manchester United striker was dismissed towards the end of the first half after catching Porto defender Pepe in the face with his hand.
Television replays suggested the clash was accidental and Rooney was looking at the ball as he went up to win a header.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was bitterly upset after the game and claimed the youngster's red card was 'ridiculous'.
Rooney could now be suspended for the start of the new Premiership season, but the England international felt he was hard done to.
Indeed, the 20-year-old even thought he would be awarded a free kick, rather than be sent off by referee Ruud Bossen.
"I thought the ref was going to give a free kick for the foul on me because of the defender backing in," said Rooney.
"I can't believe he has sent me off for that."

Watch it again. That's rubbish. He stood still while Rooney ran from behind.

I've watched it about ten times it's United so it's being repeatedly shown
It was a joke of a decision
If it wasn't Rooney it wouldn't have been noted
His eyes were on the ball
Stuff like this happens in games all the time
But it's different with a high profile player who's reputation precedes him

Nothing to do with high profile. When he jumps he leads with his elbow. Simple as that.
If high profile players are being picked on then how come Ronaldo isn't consistently sent off? It's cos he's not a prick on the pitch on occasion which Rooney blatantly is. I like Rooney but I do think this time he's in the wrong.

I totally and utterly disagree
How come the elbow on Ole went unpunished and how come the brawl in the other game was ignored?
This was a nothing challenge and it now appears the no-name ref has reported it so United, even though there was a previous similar case involving Liverpool that was ignored, could be without two big players for the start of the season
I doubt they'll ever bring a team to the tournament again if its the case
His previous red for United was justified but i disagree with this one, in fact i don't think it was a yellow
We disagree though so fair enough
Great to hear the fans in full voice and paying tribute to Stam, who Fergie made his peace with on Friday
Good performance to by the team and superb goals by the three of them
Rooneys being one of the best he's got yet
A shame that it won't be talked about but that's football
just seen it on the news, thought it looked a red, ..a clumsy challenge.
when you come jumping in from the side into standing player and get nowhere near the ball, you're putting yourself at risk. If Rooney got anywhere near the ball, the referee could have given him the benefit of the doubt but this option wasn't there. ..clumsy

What a fucking joke
Different rules for different teams

Agreed. A bit of perspective Steve, as Sound might say

Nope, I took a balanced view and i'll stand by it
I watched the whole game
I watched the incident about 10 times
And i still haven't got an explanationas to why Ole's elbow wasn't punished, or why the brawl in the other game didn't result in red cards
That's my perspective

Ole may not have had the tackle punished but Roon deserved a red

An elbow that was ten times worse than the Rooney red
His reputation went before him in my opinion
Incidents like this happen in the match all the time
United were two up and cruising, there was no bite in the game till this
The player who play-acted should have got booked
He jumped up imediately when he saw the red card
The ref had no balls
But that's my opinion and i stick by it

Tackles from behind are meant to be an automatic red, even if you don't connect with the player.
Also, if a player raises his arms, whether it's Rooney or anyone else, if contact is made you are at risk of a red card.
More's to the point - if it was another (non Man U?) player, would you all be up in arms?

I'm the only one up in arms (if you pardon the pun)
Of course i'd be pissed if it was any player
If it was another player, on either side, it would not have been punished, that's my very point

I think he was unlucky for the red but he shouldn't have risked it.
the bbc has a messageboard page hilariously titled 'how do we protect rooney from card happy refs' - frontal lobotomy perhaps?

Beg to differ. I think (Christiano) Ronaldo is a prick. Just a different kind of prick.
