Apart from Lippi's inability to speak English of course!

Sure Ferguson cant speak English.

In fairness though it could explain why they have been so quiet in the transfer market this summer.

At 58 though i wonder is he too old.

Would be great to get him as his track record speaks for itself.
Could also persuade some of the Italian players to follow suit.

I heard Lippi was retiring from football. To be honest i would be very suprised if they got rid of Ferguson and replaced him with an older manager. What would be the point? The whole reason for getting rid of Ferguson is that he is 'past it'

Lippi is about 8 years younger.

Ferguson won the treble at Lippi's age.

Sky have sent a half dozen reporters to the Baglioni hotel which is where Lippi is headed and reserved on an account used by someone connected with Glazer. I'm not sure if this backs up the story or is part of how the story started. Either way, Sky are treating this as for real.

Fergie will become GM or somesuch. He's given his ok for Lippi. Sky are still only running with the 'rumours' talk for now and won't be updating it until it's confirmed.

Ah, think Fergie's lost a certain amount of his gravitas with the younger lads. Like the idea of him staying on in a GM role. He's good on club structures but a new face in the dressing room isn't a bad idea especially if he can draw in a few top players to play for him at Utd.

Incidentally, depending on the severity of the relegations meted out, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Juve/Milan players to filter out around Europe on loan rather than being sold at a cut price.

As I've said, Utd have some very talented youngsters in centre mid but they'll need a year or two to develop. A couple of quality loan signings might be ideal.

"I have no reason to leave the club, they have always supported me, they always gave me guarantees of being able to evolve as a player," he added.
"There is still nothing concrete. During this week I believe the issue will be resolved. "If it's a question of staying there it will be fine, if I leave it will also be fine. It is still a question that has to be decided, I have four days to resolve it."

Just because some agent or newspaper links him to a move it doesn't mean he was involved.

STEVIEG

Fair enough but even if all that is true about Lippi, there is no record whatsoever of any truth being attached to the story that Heinze

1-wanted to leave
or
2-had a change of heart

From the quotes which i read earlier it seems clear he wanted to stay anyway

The Lippi story is interesting if true (though as i say i can't really see it myself, but could certainly see the logic of it for all parties)

This is a cracker. United cannot afford to pay Ferguson as well as Lippi, they are cutting costs left, right and centre, hence loaning out every player they can and cutting back on reserve teams etc. They can't afford to buy a striker until they sell Ruud so they are hardly going to go out and get another manager. Why would Lippi go there? no money to spend and a team falling further and further behind, christ sake even the scousers are better now

Fergie's wages are a moot point. Cutting costs by spunking £15M last January? Ronaldo can be sold for crazy money, Ruud less so but not a pittance they'll get a few chumps like Fortune off the books and there is the money from Mikel. Lippi inherits a team just off the pace and, as ex Juve manager, can ship in the Trezegeut's of the world on loan- Ruud problem solved with cash to spare. That leaves £30M for central midfield.

The only thing that did stand in his way was the language barrier.

The Currant Bun catching up with me and my sources. I dont know if that's a good thing.

MARCELLO LIPPI has moved a step closer to Old Trafford — by taking intensive English lessons.

The Italy boss, who quit this week after winning the World Cup on Sunday, wants to learn the lingo so he can manage in the Premiership.

Lippi, 58, tried to play down SunSport’s exclusive earlier this month that he is being lined up to replace boss Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

At the time, he said: “How can you work in a place where you don’t even know the language?”

But sources close to the ex-Juventus chief say he has decided to enrol on an English course at a top Milan language school. A pal said: “Lippi is 70 per cent sure he’s coming to the English Premiership.

“If Manchester United offer him a deal, he’ll take it. At the moment, he doesn’t speak a word of English and is worried it might count against him.

“But he is arranging to go on an intensive English course to get a better grasp of the language.

“The Italian Football Federation hopes he might change his mind but Lippi won’t come back. He wants club coaching.”

You reckon this will happen? I can't see them working side-by-side successfully myself. I would've thought that they'd have learned from the Evans/Houllier fiasco. If united are eyeing up a management change they should get Fergie out of the club altogether (having him hanging around in any other capacity would be a foolish move and would put unnecessary pressure on his successor)

It's a sop of a move to save face for Fergie. The Galzers also dont want to be hoisted on their pittard by the customers. It suits both parties. He will have nothing to do with the day to day running of the club

Lippi, who stepped down after guiding the Azzurri to glory in Germany this summer, said: "I have received so many proposals from abroad, but I really would like to coach in Spain.

"It (Primera Liga) is a competition that I really like."

The former Juventus boss was linked earlier this summer with a move to Manchester United, while Internazionale and Sampdoria are thought to be keen to acquire his services.

"I haven't received any offers from Italy," said the 58-year-old, who will take his time to decide.

"I have no intention of returning in the next few months."
