Gus Fennell on French's Quay is good. (021) 431 6087. French's Quay is the one when you come over the South Main Bridge and turn right (bottom of Barracka). He's next to the Funeral Home. He's a bit of a cranky old man but reasonable & thorough and the only one I know of in the city centre.

After replacing the back brake shoes and examining a click in my steering I asked him if he spotted anything else:

"You'll need your wishbone replaced soon - its fucked"
"Wishbone? Never heard of it....what is it?"
"...well [eyes up to heavan]...its a part in your car like" (in all seriousness!)

I use Pat Fitzgerald in Ballyvolane. He's pretty good and a FÁS instructor. 220 euro for a service which included replacing the aforementioned dodgy wishbone and a whole load of other stuff. Number 5 bus lands you outside his gate. 021 4305 163. Beware of the very large dog.

i'm in need of a service too.

i've been going to canty's on anglesea st. they were ok, but not cheap. i'll probably go back there.

it seems to me, the best mechanics are in the country hills but unfortunately, they keep retiring.
