The current system is stupid. It actually discriminates against teams from the weaker continents.

Ideally, I'd like to see an open draw or failing that 8 seeded teams with the rest of the teams drawn randomly.

I don't think so. It makes it sensibly competitive. Weaker teams have to up their game (Ghana) to qualify. What good would it be having a super strong group and a very weak group. There'd be teams annihilated at the second group stage.
