From the message board: Despite claims to the contrary, Mike did not leave willingly but was sacked by Ferguson. The reason being he was not happy with Mike working for the English Institute of sport.
About a year ago Mike started to work for the institute for about 2 hours a week, this was done with the full approval of the club and Ferguson.
However
Ferguson changed his mind earlier this year and wanted Mike to stop but gave no reason other than he said so. Mike queried this with David Gill (on the basis that he is employed by the club, not Ferguson) and Gill could see no objections and said he could carry on.
On Monday Ferguson sent for Mike and said he had gone behind his back and deliberately disobeyed his orders and as he couldn't have anyone like that working for him he was sacked.
The club would appear to acknowledge that he was unfairly dismissed as he is being paid off with the amount he could expect if he took his case to a tribunal.
So ignore the rumours about Rooney and England, yet again it is simply down to Ferguson throwing his dummy out of the pram.
As Ferguson is the one who claims no-one is bigger than the club, when is someone finally going to say the same to him. His getting rid of anyone he considers to have upset him will eventually backfire.
