MILAN AND CHELSEA TO BEGIN SHEVCHENKO TALKS
From Cindy Garcia-Bennett, PA Sport, Rome
MILAN, May 26 (Serie A) - AC Milan have accepted Andriy Shevchenko's request
to leave the club but have warned Chelsea they must break the bank to land the
29-year-old Ukrainian international forward.
Shevchenko appeared alongside AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani at the
club's offices in Via Turati in downtown Milan at a hastily arranged press
conference to announce his decision on Friday afternoon.
Shevchenko said: ``I am leaving for family reasons - I want to thank the club
for everything it's given to me.
``There's no problems regarding my relationship with anyone in the club or any
financial problems.''
Galliani, in day to day control of the club owned by former Italian prime
minister Silvio Berlusconi, said: ``It's a victory of the English language over
the Italian language.''
That was apparently a reference to Shevchenko's American wife who reportedly
wants a move to England.
``I've tried to convince him to stay - even one minute prior to the press
conference,'' continued Galliani.
``This is certainly the most painful divorce since I have been at Milan and
from now on we will begin negotiations with Chelsea and it will not be easy.''

Bugger. This doesn't bode well for those who want a competitive league. Two big, big players in a few days. We can only hope that it upsets the applecart in some way.

"Leaving for family reasons".
If you don't come to London, your family in Ukraine will be sleeping with the fishes . . .
First Dessie dies, now this, a sad day indeed.

might aswell hand the title to chelsea now
..Chelsea give Milan shitloads of cash ..who in turn give shitloads of cash to United for Ruud, sadly.
...along with the shitloads of cash Chelsea have already given United for Obi Wan.
thats a lotta cash. perhaps £25m, maybe more depending on how well Milan bargain.

goodbye football, hello Chelsea
Jose must be on special orders to turn on a bit of flair and win the European Cup. ..It's no bad thing to see Chelsea buying a bunch of 29 year olds with big reputations, it will be a negative thing in the long run.
Maybe Chelsea will ease up a bit in the league too, ..Jose mentioned being so far ahead in December lessened their sharpness come the return of the Champions League in the spring. ..The same was the case for United in 2000 and 2001. maybe Chelsea will ease off with all the 100% winning pre xmas.
It's a bit like the Grand National, ...for the whole season you just need to be in contention for everything in January, just like you need just to be in contention after the first lap at Aintree.

i doubt it in regard to slowing on winning the title before christmas. i would think he'd simply say that the team must
a) win by christmas, and
b) beat arsenal's run of 49 unbeaten games, possibly even stretching it to winning 49 games consecutively and beyond! and he wont rest till then.
if they dont do it, they'll be dropped to the reserves, and 3 new teams costing around £900million be brought in until the feat is achieved.

i dunno,
these new purchases look geared only towards providing the individual brilliance that is required to turn and win European matches.

Milan should hold out for as big a fee as possible. Interesting to see how well Chelsea will gel together next season, alot of big names, and with Ego's like Ballack around, how long can the not so special one keep everyone happy?
