and to be honest i think the knock on effect will be very good for the Celtic league. more pubs will now get setanta in for the football and so the CL will be more widely avialable and will be able to draw a bigger TV audience with the follow on effect of more sponsorship and hopefully development, looking good

As much as i disagreed with skys monopoly, they doa great job. It'll be a balls having the games spred over a few platforms.
Plus i hope the price of sky sports will be reduced due to the reduction in games.

I'm all for eradicating Sky's monopoply on the premiership but it defeats the purpose to split the rights with another pay channel.. The thinh about the Premiership is that it's a product thats in high demand.
Ireland is a country where for some reason competition in some industries doesn't drive the price down as much as it should. Irish people still pay over the odds for TV subscriptions, phone, internet etc depite an influx of service providers over the past couple of years. And as far I can tell from reading posts and threads on here. the service that most of these provide is sub par to say the least.
Do people really expect Sky to cut their price by the ratio of games lost to Setanta. Not a chance

I think in fact the amount of games Sky will be showing will increse by 2, so defo no price decrease. still without doubt, totally overpriced.
regarding the celtic league, Do the players take that thing seriously never, mind the fans?

Or it could go the other way and make people stay in the pub anf watch the Eircom League rather than paying 10 euro or whatever it costs this season to go.
I'd be more worried about tothe other clubs(esp the Dubs) rather than City in this situation

I'm of the opinion that the more exposure, the better. Look at Gaelic games - over the last 20 years or so the games have become more commercialised and there's far more coverage on telly yet people are still willing to queue for hours for tickets. Let's face it, it's all about getting kids interested. They are the ones who'll form the hardcore support in the future. If they're not being exposed to the Eircom league then they'll have no interest.

exactly....the more coverage the better imo...if they can advertise the eL well then hopefully more people will start attending the games too......

i think its a disaster to be honest, well personally anyway.
i think we already pay enough for sky (ie. €62.50 p/month) without having to fork out another €13 a month for setanta, and they've said some of their games will be on ppv aswell so thats even more cost.
i already subscribe to Mutv at €8 per month and get far more out of that than i ever will out of setanta. looks like more trips to the pub next year.
