about 10 minutes to go and the game is as good as over. not sure of the score as only caught tail end of report on 96fm.
This win sets up a meeting in the semi final with Laois. now to say that this team and the Laois team have a bit of history is an understatement...

mass brawl,july 2004 (http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2004/08/02/story252135593.asp)

that game ended in a draw, and Laois subsequently won the replay, However, they've since lost 2 of their better players to aussie rules and the cork u21 management is a far more competent unit than the minors were at that time.Laois won the equivalent minor championship in 2003 after a replay,so they have plenty talent in their ranks,Donie Brennan being the stand out man.
But this is a great chance for Cork to get to an All Ireland final, it will be tough. a cracking game in prospect.

dare i say it but things might just be looking up for Cork football, and the best thing is this team seems to have scoring power. and they were missing john hayes too. an all ireland this year would be a huge boost for football in the county.

Cork did get some classy scores especially Daniel Goulding who kicked some great points but Waterford were shocking so it is hard to tell how good Cork are. They did move the ball very well but they were not under a lot of pressure.

jesus christ, that county board are a bunch of crooks.
considering it was waterford, you'd think a tenner would have done.

saucy enough alright for what turned out to be no more than a practice match.

exactly, and that was most likely always going to be the case. they should be trying to bring in crowds, not make an extra 4 or 5 hundred euro off the gate.

Beating Kerry made the final Cork's.
Wouldn't be getting carried away with putting up scores against Waterford.
At the same time a win is a good boost for the county.
But I think it's more important considering ye beat Kerry the last 3 years in a row at U21.(Granted Gooch was rested/injured in 04).
But at the same time I think ye need a top class forward to improve yer senior ranks.
Some good potential in the U21s we'll just have to wait and see.

between, gould, goulding, hayes, kerrigan and leahy i think they should find at least 1 maybe 2 decent senior forwards.

Decent yes.
Gould and Goulding can be very good county players.
But they still won't be top top players I feel and ye lack this.
Someone to take the game to the opposition.
We have a gooch, Armagh have Stevie Mc and Tyrone have O'Neill and many more.
Tis a Declan Browne or Benny Coulter ye need.
A top drawer county forward.
We are lacking in them ourselves at the moment - bar the ginger man.
A lot of fellas not playing to potential and more not making an impact coz they ain't good enough.

i think such players only come around once in a blue moon. kerry have been lucky in that they had maurice fitz before gooch, and mickey sheehy and shplaaaine before that. dublin haven't has a top forward in 30 years, cork's only one was corkery(if we discount a certain kildare man). i'm still not sure about stephen o neill, i'll reserve judgement till this season.

declan browne would make cork real contenders. i'd rate him up there with gooch.

this current lot does have some talented players.Hayes in particular is still u21 next year.Kerrigan has impressed me whenever I've seen him play aswell.Roy Leahyis well able to take a score and has a great burst of pace,I think he's another one to watch.
We may not find a Stephen O'Neill or a gooch from this lot,but that's because the likes of O'Neill and gooch don't just come along every year, they're the kind of player you only see a few times in a generation, like JBM or Maurice Fitz

Yeah. Agree with you there.
But what about Jayo? heh heh heh

On O'Neill he is class but kicks too many wides.
We'd win the all ireland every year if we had Browne.
Imagine himself and Gooch on a full forward line - Class.

Quite talented yes.
But they only barely beat a Kerry U21 team who have no real Senior starter as of yet.
Just putting it into perspective.

Question Tom,Does Kerrys lack of Minor and u21 success in recent years worry you?

good win, you can only beat whats in front of you, hopefully there won't be a mass brawl this time, it was quite ugly the last time.

I believe this team was mismanaged at minor level and was more than capable of winning an All Ireland minor title. Its great that they have a manager like Leahy who is an excellent coach, who concentrates on the skills of the game. Just hope they get a decent support saturday night.

great win for cork on saturday,Gould man of the match,if he can translate this form to senior he'll be a major asset for Cork this year and for many years to come.
All Ireland final V Mayo on sunday in Ennis at half 2.It's a repeat of the 1994 decider, which cork won. this is a strong mayo side so it should be an interesting game.Cork have rode their luck a few times this year but fingers crossed they bring the cup home sunday night

robbed, ref gave us nothing, blew the whistle for anything and nothing. being unjustly reduced down to 14 effectively cost us the game. forwards, bar goulding, never clicked either. very disapointing indeed.

Johnnyc

I wouldn't totally agree with that. The sending off might have been a bit harsh alright, normally if a fella is on a yellow already the ref would let that go. The penalty was fine imo. I think there is a lot of potential in this team. There is a few scoring forwards which we badly need at senior. It's a disappointment not to win it after 3 munster titles but I think Cork football is on the up. There was still alot of fight in the team, they didn't give up.

Hopefully it all translates to the seniors.
