was down at the match on saturday night and i must say that i was really sweet to beat these scumbags. the night began with the usual quick pint in the sliver key before heading in. so i open the doors to be met by about 100 pissed dubs watching the blackburn game. soon as it was over they all break into various renditions of molly malone and come on youse boys in blueah.
after me pint i head down to the match only to be totally outnumbered but what could only resemble a scene from the snapper. fucking pissed jackeen scum everywhere who apparently find the use of the word langer hillarious. the soccer style chanting began once again and i can honsestly say that i really wanted us to beat the scum, this was no meaningless league game. every 50/50 call by the ref was followed by "cheat cheat" chants and quite a few sang the boys in blue through the anthem. corks win was a victory for the GAA.

on the game itself, way better for cork although you'd hardly know it given the dub-centric view on sunday sport. cork were missing about 6 first teamers.
dublin tried to turn the game into a scrap but cork responded in a fairly but firmly. hopefully a lesson learned from the kerry game. dublin for their part got some good scores but they were very dirty. late tackles and off the ball punching. noelie leary, canty and lynchie seemed well up for it and niblock was excellent.

I loved the thread title. Anyway to the game, its great to get a win under the belt against pretty good opposition. It was all the sweeter since the Dubs had their suspensions overturned after the Battle of Omagh.

Hopefully the team will grow from here on in. Success to breed success - lets hope so. I'd only be looking for good performances in the league and to not get relegated, hopefully a few players will be unearthed for an assault on Munster.

Jesus Christ that Bastick is some tinker.
Pulled a McMenamin and got away with it and then a Rugby tackle.
Good win by Cork.
There is no crowd of supporter worse than that Dublin bunch.

Was Cluxton in goals? Best goalie in the country if you believed the West Brit media hype.
Even though he cost them against Tyrone and ducked the ball against Cork the last night.

You'd swear Alan Brogan was as good as the Gooch the way they go on about him and just to show Dublin media bias - Paddy Christie has 3 All Stars.

I hate them fuckers. Fair play Cork.

for those not at the game.
quirke: pretty good, huge kickouts will be a plus when the midfield returns
both corner men were very good and sticky, admitedly dub forwards/atheletes are usually pretty wayward.
canty was immense and was motm, such a pity he has to play full back.
ger spillane was very good, drove on throughout the game. his best game so far.
lynchie class as usual.
nollaig kept the head this time. when being targetted again.
midfield: pretty average(at best). people claiming d hurley had a good game but dublin got the better of exchanges. dylan meighan played there for a while and did ok.
half forwards. conor mac did ok, but lot some bad possesion especially for the goal. needs more aggression.
niblock was excellent, really stood up to the dubs physically and came into it more amd more as the game went on. got 2 cracking long range points.
masters was very quiet.
donnacha o connor was ok, got a nice flick for the goal.
kevin sull played his best game for cork so far, some nice shooting off both feet.
sean o brien started well but faded a bit.

overall they did quite well and rallied once dublin drew level and looked like they would win it.

rte glossed over the fact that the dubs tried to start their trademark mass brawl on at least 2 occasions. they also mainly showed dublin scores on the highlights and analysed the game from their persective.
agree with you tom on brogan, his shooting is shite, especially if he has time to think about the shot.

Yeah they brushed aside Basticks kneeing attempt too and had Lyons in studio to ensure there was objectivity!!!!!
Its sad. Cork looked good but still have work to do.
Our fellas were lucky this weekend.
Again that Bastick is some tinker.

Question: Is there a better feeling in Sport than seeing Dublin lose?
Whether it be by your own team or another.
I think not.

They draw it on themselves with all their media hype, you just love the objective media commentary the day after.
All whinging and moaning - class.

To beat Kerry ye'll need more scoring forwards and two good corner backs.
Still a big problem for ye I feel.

they've got 2 corner backs now, a million times better than last year. no-one can hold gooch but they'll give most others a run for their money. agree with you on the forwards. i doubted niblock but he did well the other night. if him john hayes and goulding gel they could be ok. still a bit off kerry but if they get beyond dublin, mayo and derry it'll be an improvement.

Big time.
Not a big Hayes fan.
Gould is class though.

As for corner backs it remains to be seen whether Morgan will part with Geary and Murphy in favour of O Connor and Prout.

not so sure about gould, think niblock may have edged ahead of him, i was talking about dan goulding

Watching Gould for UCC he looks the part.
Strong, Fast and Good with the ball in his hands.
You'll need this against the Northerners.
Goulding will do well against poorer defences but mightn't be as useful if you meet an Armagh or Tyrone but a good young player regardless.

U21 game was close.
We probably threw it away in the end but it was by all account a fair result.

Cork 1-11

Dublin 1-10

CORK snapped up their first points of Division 1A of the Allianz National Football League on Saturday night in Páirc Uí Rinn with a well-deserved, if narrow victory.

Despite the rain-soaked conditions it was an entertaining tie, particularly the closing stages as Dublin fought ferociously to take something from the game. But Cork, backed by a large vocal home support, had enough about them to grind out the win.

After their opening defeats to Offaly and Kerry, the success here pushes Cork back into contention in the league. Their prospects of featuring in the knockout stages were boosted here, and while victory is essential in their trip to Mayo next weekend, they will be quietly optimistic of getting something from that tie.

Coach Billy Morgan was pleased with the night's events. "I'm delighted with that performance. Giving that we were missing a number of players and that we had to make changes before the match with Seán Levis and Noel O'Leary coming in, it was a good result. You also had our U-21s missing since they had drawn with Kerry earlier on in the day.

"Taking all that into account it was a good win for us."

"There were times in the second half when it looked like going away from us. That was the most pleasing: that we dug in so much to get the win. Dublin came at us strong but we held out. We played Conor McCarthy back as an extra half-back tonight and it worked well. Conor has a tremendous engine and he did very well there."

Dublin manager Paul Caffrey was not too subdued despite the loss of points. "Well, it was a tremendous occasion. I'm a big fan of floodlight games and we always like coming down here for them. It was a bit disappointing that we didn't take anything out of the game. We weren't great in that period before half-time, and Cork got a few good scores. But we did well at times in the second half, played some better football and we'd be happy with that."

O'Callaghan best

Dublin began brightly with points through David O'Callaghan, easily their best forward in the opening half, and Conal Keaney.

But Cork stormed back into it in the 7th minute. Seán O'Brien dropped his point effort short, and debutante Donncha O'Connor stole in to fist decisively to the net. Cork were emboldened by that strike and with Graham Canty and Anthony Lynch emerging as the defensive lynchpins.

James Masters and David Niblock grabbed fine points and then in a lightning three-minute spell they banged off a trio of points through Conor McCarthy and an excellent Kevin O'Sullivan brace.

But just as Cork looked on the verge of coasting to a comfortable half-tine advantage, Dublin pegged them back when Declan Lally seized on a loose ball to score a goal that left it 1-6 to 1-3 at the interval, a scoreline that did not reflect the game's early patterns.

And upon the resumption Dublin kept up the momentum. Bryan Cullen, revelling in the full-forward role, fired over three fine points and Tomás Quinn notched two to square matters at 1-8 apiece.

Dublin were producing the better football but then crucially they lost midfielder Denis Bastic as he picked up a second yellow. Cork grasped the advantage to string together three points from Gary Murphy, Niblock and Masters.

Dublin made a brief rally as Alan Brogan and Ciarán Whelan points shaved the gap to one, but Cork hung on tenaciously for the win.
