Bet that there were no more than 17 people who had even heard of her this morning, now politicians will be falling over themselves to share the limelight as she celebrates.

you obviously weren't watching it on telly.......she could eat an apple through a tennis racket so she could.
fair fucks to her though....that's a massive achievement.....was a damn close finish...i don't she knew herself that she won until they showed it on the screen in the stadium

that reminds me of a gary lineker closing quote after a match where Brazil had won and Ronaldo scored. "you've just seen 2 goals from the only man at the world cup who can eat an apple through a tennis racket!"

Great performance...she has been a consitently high performer up til now...she has won bronze melas at the World Student Games and Under 23 Euro champs in the last few years, and has improved further in the last year or so...unbeaten so far this year!!!!
She gets the princely grant of €12,000 a year from the Sports Council....which just goes to show how poorly our top athletes are treated in this country!!!!
Fair dues to you girl!!!
I sincerely hope there isn't a bit of a Michelle Smith about this

What about her Leevale clubmate, Marcus O' Sullivan? He won three world indoor 1500 M titles, so leave her alone.
Plus she is the first Irish athlete ever who was born here, is still living here, and being coached here by Irish coaches to win a world title.
Jim Kilty, Dr. Liam Hennessy, Andrea Cullen, Dave Fagan, Sean Cahill, and in her earlier days, John Sheehan and Seamus Power deserve an awful lot of credit today.
The Sports Council have been exposed again as a shower of morons. They cancelled her grant last year after she suffered an injury because they "thought she was rubbish," in the words of Jim Kilty, her coach.
She will be back on Friday, so why not go up to the airport and ask "if there is a bit of Michelle Smith about this" to her face?

She only got that via Athletics Ireland, after the sports council cancelled her grant.
John Treacy hasn't a clue, it's when athletes are injured that they need support, not to have their grants cancelled.

Congratulations are due to her now on the silver medal she won at the European Outdoor championships.
A great sporting ambassador for Cork.
