don't think so.
he never rated Liverpool and he was on the ball last night.
I'm no big fan but he said what we were all thinking about a lot of the players.

Yeah, I thought he was bang on about Cisse. And Gilesy was hilarious about Garcia.

Dunphy is a tool. This is the same fella who said this last year people
Eamo - "Bayern, Arsenal, Real, Porto, haven't a hope. Chelsea good but won't win it, will struggle. AC Milan are not a top class side,
Barcelona lack a bit of steel. If United beat Milan they'll win it"
Gilsey - "I think Chelsea have a great chance"
Eamo - "I agree with John, I think Chelsea will beat Barcelona and reach the final."
The quickest U-turn yet?

They put the Arsenal V Real match on the big screen in my local, and relegated that other match to a small tv in the corner.
I can honestly say that that game was probably one of the best 0-0 matches I've seen in yonks.
Typical RTE, Dumpland is a suburb of Liverpool, so they pick the Liverpool V Benfica match, yet the nine times winners of the competition are playing against Arsenal, and a goal down from the first leg and they put it on as highlights. Real are the biggest club in the world, not to mind Europe, and yet our national TV station goes all parochial again......
Thank fawk for Sky Sports.

To be fair, RTÉ is not setting itself up as an international broadcaster, of course there's an element of parochialism! Ask yourself, how many Liverpool fans are there in the country as compared with Arsenal ones? RTÉ made the right coice in their coverage. Look at it this way, would RTÉ show a Brazil v Germany game above an Ireland v (say) Slovakia game? Which has the more interest for RTÉ's viewers? Same as last night

actually saw his comments last night
Some were overblown
He forgot to mention that that little fella, Smicer, score one of Liverpools goals in that European cup final
Himself and Giles quite rightly pointed out deficiencies that the Skys of the world would ignore though but with Dunphy it's just a pinch of salt and a wind-up half the time

I wouldn't necessarily go along with that to be honest, I think they covered the wrong match.
Arsenal are based in North London, and have a strong Irish heritage, (Stapleton, Quinn, Brady, Jennings etc.) and were playing the biggest club in the world, who were desperate for an away goal to even things up from the last match in the Bernebeau.
Real are nine times winners of the competition, and have a huge following here in Ireland as well.
Still as TV becomes more fragmented, and as we get more choice we are no longer restricted to the output from Donnybrook, and happily that is reflected in their diminishing share of the market.
And as no Irish club was involved last night, then your analogy about an Ireland V Slovakia game doesn't stand up.
Real are nine times winners of the competition, and have a huge following here in Ireland as well.

Liverpool have a strong irish heritage as well, and there was an irish player actually playing for them last night.
And like it or not, there are more Liverpool fans than Arsenal in Ireland, so it made sense to show the Liverpool game.

and probably most other peoples as well. Liverpool were the most successful team in England in the 70s and 80s, united in the 60s and 90s. it stands to reason that those 2 clubs would have the biggest fan base here.

And they do. Arsenal's doesn't compare with United's or Liverpool's. And I'd even go as far to say that there are more Leeds fans in Irel;and than Arsenal fans.
No doubt about it though, United and Liverpool have the Lion's share.

Yeah, I'd go along with the leeds thing alright, although given their decline and arsenals joint dominance of the premierhip with united in recent years, I'd say they're pretty close.

I think from now on it's wide open, Olympique would love to get to Paris for the final though. Although so would Thierry Henry.

Parochialisms aside, the French team could be said to have more of an incentive to play in Paris, as would the French players in the other remaining teams. My local newspaper in France is placing great emphasis on this fact, and also the way that Lyon would like to put one over on Marseille, Monaco, and Paris St. Germain by appearing in the showpiece of European Club Football in their own Capital City.

It's been in Turkey, Scotland and England the past few seasons. It makes no difference where it's on. It's about who has the better players and who wants it more between here and the final. That may well turn out to be Lyon but just because they'd weally, weally wuv to pway it while it's in France doesn't mean that it's that much more of an advantage.

I backed them to win in back in december, they've a well organised side and none of the remaining teams will find them easy opponents to overturn. Malouda was excellent last night apparently

Never said it was an advantage, just an extra incentive.
The same as it was for the French National side in 1998.

Getting back to the debate about which game RTE should have shown, the real question is what's the ratio of Liverpool fans in this country to non-Liverpool fans who want to watch champions league coverage on RTE.
Now usually I can understand RTE showing Liverpool or United ahead of any other club but I'd say last night should have been an exception because I'd say close to 100% of "neutrals" in Ireland along with all Arsenal fans would have chosen Arsenal v Real over Liverpool v Benfica and there's a fair chance RTE would have gotten a bigger audience for that game.

Exactly. It was the most attractive fixture, however both Benfica's goals were extremely well taken.
They should have had the highlights of the Liverpool Benfica game and live coverage of the Arsenal V Real game.

Spot on.Dunphy tipped Chelsea for the Champions League at the start of the season and when he was reminded of that recently by Bill he mumbled a response and started talking about something else. Most of the time he just says stuff that he thinks is controversial.
Dunphy on RTÉ Wed night
ON Cisse -
- " here we have Cisse, right wing, attempts to put in a cross, BANG...hits the full back, again BANG hits the full back, BANG...off the full back again, and once more, BANG...smacks the full back again....Millions of euro and he can't clear the first man, I mean...what's he trying to do to the full back here, Kill him??"
On Kewell -
- "Eamon, how did you rate Harry Kewell ?"
- "Fat. And a clown. A fat clown for all to see."
On Fowler -
- "An overweight has been. He's got more money than Liverpool!"
Mourinho didn't escape either :
- "A bluffer who just got found out. Will never be at the tactical level of Milan or Barcelona, doesn't even have the footballing intelligence even to know why Barca beat him. Look at his claims that the best team didn't win. Ridiculous. He's a bengal lancer"
ON Cisse and Garcia -
- " It was Ragball Rovers out there with Cisse and Garcia. Look at Cisse. Somebody thought he was worth £14 million at some
stage. He's no left foot and no right. £14 million and counting. They bought him a big mansion in Cheshire and now he's no more than a part of the landed gentry. Absolute rubbish "
On Garcia -
- "What do you do with Garcia, I'll tell you what to do with him, he should be put in a rubbish bin where he belongs "
Even though he's a spoofer, I'd agree with all of them except the Fowler one
