6th place in the table level on points with arsenal, who will have the same amount of games played after they lose to liverpool tonight. 4 points behind the spuds in 4th, 7 straight wins, no injuries, everyone firing on all cylinders. still in the FA cup, its a great time to be a hammer-c'mon you irons

How are the places given out ?

4 for Champion's League from League (assuming the winner doesn't finish outside the top 4 again)
1 UEFA spot for FA Cup winners (runners-up)
1 UEFA spot for League Cup winners (if they didn't qualify for the CL or UEFA cup anyway
1 UEFA spot for the League.
An extra spot for the League if the League Cup winners have already qualified.

Is that right?

something like that, and we're in the inter-toto cup too which qualifies you for the UEFA cup if you win so all is looking good for next season, especially considering we have to play the top 3 only once each

You should probably start hoping the Manchester Utd win the League Cup. That would mean 6th place guaranteed a UEFA spot.

I'd say Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal & Spurs will form the top 5. After that 6th is up for grabs.

Everton are playing well at the moment, although having to play their 4th choice goalie isn't going to be nice.

don't wigan get a spot cos utd will take a champs league place, and wigan as finalists in the cup take the european spot? didn't millwall get into europe a few seasons ago this way?

Possibly.

I don't really get the League Cup situation. The FA cup definitely has that rule and can even go back to the semi-finalists. I have some memory of a lower league club not going in to Europe from the League Cup when I expected them to, but you're right that Millwall were in it.

Milwall got through as FA cup runners up, I think the place on offer for the league cup reverts back to the 7th place team, and that's how boro got in last year

so we'll presume united finish top four, and garner a champions league spot, and for arguments sake, they win the carling cup.Wigan would not be given a Uefa spot unless they finish in the 5th-7th bracket in the league

As a Spurs fan I just want to say well done to the Hammers right now. They are playing the game the way it should be played and doing very well. I wish them all the best...always a club i had time for.

That said here's hoping Spurs clinch 4th ahead of Arsenal.

spurs had better not get complacent west ham are only 4 points out with 12 games left. last game of the season, west ham v spurs at the boleyn,if it turns out to be winner takes the CL place in 4th, now that would be a finish to the season. forget about wigan, we'll finish ahead of them

Wrong person, sorry about that,
Just moved over from London June 2005, just seeing if anything going on(west ham wise)

I'd be surprised if West Ham finish in the top 6. If the goals dry up even slightly, the defence is way to porous to carry them. Still though, amazing season after just coming up, and Etherington and Reo-Coker especially seem to be excellent prospects.

no fear of the goals drying up, harewood, ashton, zamora, sheringham they've all been in fine scoring form. and the defence porous? have you been watching any of the west ham games? ferdinand and gabbidon are on fire, and now scolari to strengthen the right back position with clive clarke on fire against arsenal and koncheski getting into the england squad, we're very solid back there (and thats without mentioning shaka being in top form

Making a few predictions (Please nobody dig up the ones I did at the start of the year...)

Top 3 in order: Chelsea, United, Liverpool
4th place: Tight between Arsenal and Spurs. Arsenal to just edge it
6th place: Between West Ham, Bolton and Everton. I'd make Bolton slight favourites.

everton are a long way off 6th, man city are in better shape and 4-6 are tighter then just 2 teams competing for 4th

Everton are 5 points off 4th place. They have 19 points from their last 21 and when you remember that they started the season with 7 losses, they have been in some form since.

Clean sheets in the last 2 games against 2 of the bottom 3. Before that you have to go 14 games back to West Brom to find West Ham's last shutout. Down the stretch I'll always bet on the teams that don't concede.

Isn't it amazing how they went down with 42 points in 2002-2003, with what a lot of people would say was maybe a better squad then what they have now?

Pardew is one of the most under rated managers in the premiership.

And I think everyone who cares about football is happy to see the hammers doing well.

what you have to remember about that is, we were missing danny gabbidon for a good while during that spell we conceded, james collins is decent cover but not up to the same level as gabbidon

everton are 11, 5 poits behind WHU and the same amount of games played, if they get injuries they'l be feckered

I'll give you that point. In the last 16 games West Ham have conceded 24 goals. During those 16 games, in the 9 games Gabiddon played 90 minutes, they conceded 8 goals. They gave up 16 during the other 7.
The worst losses came when Reo-Coker was also out though, so that would have had a big effect as well. Problem is, that shows up the squad as being very thin.

everton are 11, 5 poits behind WHU and the same amount of games played, if they get injuries they'l be feckered
You can't say that about Everton and not say it about West Ham. In particular, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Reo-Coker and Etherington must stay fit. An injury (or suspension) to Hislop before Carroll gets back would leave them in a hole as well (just ask Everton).

Basically, to get 6th they need to finish ahead of Spurs, Arsenal or Bolton. Spurs have a decent squad. Arsenal do too, even if its being tested to the limit at the moment. Bolton proved they have a squad by carrying on ok even though they lost 4 to the Nations Cup. West Ham will need a good bit of luck to end up ahead of any of them, and thats barring a charge from Wigan, Everton or Man City who are all within 5 points.
