View Full Version : National Basketball Cup
Is splitting the semis and finals a good or bad idea?
Since RTE were big on it then options were limited, but has the glamour weekend been ruined?

I'm not big into the Basketball but I always enjoyed this weekend thing when it was on.
Think you have a good point.
What I remember of National League Basketball was going to Team Kerry Spring Water games in the Pres Gym - it was always the place you'd arrange to meet a girl when you were like 13/14.

I think it has, it seems more of a money making racket than anything else. Look at the numbers at the semi's, the majority of Ballina and Limerick fans refused to travel, due to ticket prices and the fact that if they won they would have to travel again! The IBA seem to trying their best to ruin the game in this country tatally!! Now even trying to remove Billy Coffee from the cork board.

The IBA are looking for each player with a club to be registered with them (at a cost!) and also for each club to pay extra money for child officers etc! Coffee doesn't feel that Cork clubs have to pay it, due to a loop hole in the wording that he highlighted when the new rules where written. Technically no area boards are "under" the IBA 'cos they where left out of new constitution! He is getting backing from 3 other boards ant the IBA are getting narky 'cos he caught them out! Say what you want about him, but who would run Cork basketball then, he is fair and does good work!

If they did bring to Cork it would cost you more money than if it was in dublin

Coffey has done a great job over the years and has done a lot for Cork basketball. When i played (long time ago) he was up in the hall every time there was games on, and most other places aswell. Good for him for trying to save everyone some money. As for the cup weekend, it was always a great weekend to go to. The craic started on the train and ended on monday, itmust really take away from the atmosphere to split it into 2 weekends.
