Well were is it … I have now heard that it’s no longer a map of Cork but a pattern is this true ? if so will there be a return of funds from half angel seeing as they failed to deliver on the original proposal that was funded by 2005.
the half angel webpage says that it is now closed and you can buy a book called "voices of Cork, the knitting map speaks"
.......I’m confused

It was never a map of Cork you divvy, it was an even more pointless map of stuff like weather patterns, temperatures and activity in different areas, all jumbled up on a computer programme. Now that it's finished it's too big to display anywhere. Knutters.

Given the weather we normally have in the south I’d say it's not bashful long strings of golden oranges but a stop -start broken black and blues.
If I recall rightly they were boasting about the fact it would wrap around city hall ……………………. Right.
Now, I loved the idea of community it created among the200 volunteers but the cost was up there for something that might be hideous

The whole thing is completely pointless, and an unholy waste of money, seriously, where have you been all year? It's been a joke from start to finish, this is not a new argument.

It not an argument ya daft mare I actually want to see the thing and see with my own eyes what I make of it and draw my own conclusion to which end will I wipe my ass with first

i fail to understand how half-angel got such massive funding, what previous projects had they undertaken to allow funding of over €750,000 euro for a fucking knitting map.

You could hold an electric picnic event and charge about 10 euro in on that much cash.

thats what i've been saying all year - 750 thousand euro for a bit of knittery by a load of UNPAID volunteers...

swiss bank accounts?

honest to god like - what would you Spudgun, and say Stevie G and maybe rope in Nicewanbiy, and throw a party like - for 750k... would ya be able to do it for that money?

probably.. and it would last for every weekend , 6 months solid probably.

come to think of it, Paul Oakenfold is about 100k for the night, Sasha about 75k , Sven Vath about 50k... so, you'll have about 500k left for the lazers.

missed opportunity - Ibiza by the Lee during the summer... could have seriously upped the ante on the Henry's vibe and pushed it further.

end result - an Ibizan or Berlin level of summer tourism.. lots of money to spend and all that..

The map's hopefully going to be displayed in Millenium Hall during the Midsummer Festival (www.corkfestival.co m) this June. There'll also be discussions, Q&A's etc about it, which half/angel will of course be involved in.

There's no doubt that the knitting was one of the most talked about projects during 2005 and that a lot of people have a lot of questions about it, financial and otherwise. I don't think that we ever got the opportunity to ask questions about the project during 2005 - hopefully this'll go some way to redressing that.

i will be there with my pitch fork and stake from which to burn half angel.

Just like they burned away the good part of 1 million yoyos on a insanly pointless project.

Missed it, Alan O’Riordan from the Examiner went along and asked the question I wanted to ask.how much did this cost?
Half angel refused to reveal the cost despite the fact it was funded with public money.
John Kennedy “forgets” the cost of the project
This really saddens me that this had gone unchecked, the figure in the paper says 300,000 euro I heard it’s more like 3 times that amount .
free wool and volunteers, were did the money go ?

More on page 13 of the examiner

I talked to the head programmer from 2005 a while ago and she said that the organisation was mooting putting all financial information online. I guess this now isn't going to happen and I think that's a real pity, partially because it is just impossible to debate things like "Was the knitting map a good community project / bad art / something else" because you can't get past "Any idea how much it cost?". John Kennedy is still in his post until towards the end of this year (November I think) and I'll certainly be encouraging him to get a bit freer with info like this. I think that as many other people as are interested should do the same. The address is "Cork:2005, Civic Trust House, 50 Pope’s Quay, Cork" and the e-mail is info@cork2005.ie

Just wondering, any further news on the map?

I saw pictures of it for the first time today, so it does exist. I have to say, that kind of surprised me as I haven't heard a word about it for months.

I notice on half/angel's website that its available for touring, but is there a plan to exhibit it permanently?

Also, has the cost been made public yet?

The map is a concept
Money is a concept
Art doesn't exist outside of our minds.

Biggest load of shite ever, looks like what'd happen if you gave 3 grannys knitting needles and speed...

It would serve a much better purpose if they just let someone at it with a scissors and used it for blankets for Cork Simon or the Red Cross or something. Can't believe that it's actually being stored and toured and thus incurring even more costs.
