Atletico Madrid look set to win the race for Portugal's Maniche, according to Spanish sources.

Manchester United had also been keen on the Dinamo Moscow playmaker - who is set to quit the Russian capital just six months after joining from Porto, but he now looks set for Spain.

United had looked into the signing of Maniche, but Atletico have pushed on with their interest in recent weeks and now look to have all but sealed his signature.

Maniche cost the Russians around £10 million - but Atletico are looking to pay just half that amount to take him to the Vicente Calderon in January.

Atletico are looking to spend big in January and they could have a new-look central midfield with Tomas Rosicky of Borussia Dortmund also looking likely to join the Rojiblancos.

Rosicky has already agreed terms with Atletico and now the two clubs are discussing a fee, although it is expected the move will be finalised within the next week or so.

The Spanish winter break kicks in later this month, and Atletico will expect to have both Maniche and Rosicky available to them when La Liga returns in January.

We better have a target for midfield better than this guy if he is going to Atletico on the cheap

Maniche has disimproved greatly since Mourinho left Porto. No loss to United.

Very true young Superdave but it seems to me that some people on here believe everything that they read in the tabloids.

Someone above made a reference to that fact that United have or are about to miss out on some player who looks likely to be going to Madrid. He probably read this in one of the tabloids and believes ever word of it, pretty sad really.

would make for an interesting Documentary. Much along the lines of Supersize me (guy eats nothing but Mickey D's for a month) it would be an interesting concept to live for a month on a diet of nothing but the S*n newspaper. Could be fatal.

Imagine it - quirky updates about a burglar in germany that got stuck in a honey pot. Sophisticated deep delving jounalism on the shops frequented by Ms Rooney. EXCLUSIVE Photo's of Curly from coronation street eating a kebab (yes he got humus.).

You wouldn't know whether you were coming or going.

Reading the s*n makes your ass fat too. (EXCLUSIVE)

I don't know if United are after that player so basically we're arguing over speculation.
