View Full Version : Some Liverpool fans

Living in Ireland I don't have the same 'hatred' of Liverpool as my fellow reds in Manchester. I've listened to all the history associated with the shipping trade etc. and I don't feel it's anything I can comment on. I understand why Manchester people dislike Liverpudlians but for me it is football rivalry only, why I dislike them. Having said that I've never been to Liverpool and I hate the way Gerard & Carragher speak. And brookside used to drive me mad!
But a classic example of why I dislike a section Liverpool fans came in April 1996. The night they beat Newcastle 4-3 they were delighted as they thought it kept them in the hunt for the title. But also they wouldn't have minded losing to see Newcastle pip us. Sad. Wanting to see your own team lose so it stops United from winning is sad. They were the same in 1995.
Then last May at half time in the Champions League final I got a text from a so called Liverpool fan. It read 'Pity we went all this way to be outclassed in the final'. I didn't reply as I'm not one for gloating but on the penalty save that won it I got a text from the same chap saying 'F*** you and your Nou Camp). Now how sad is that/ I haven't spoken to the chap since, not because I fell out with him but I think him childish in the extreme. He's 36 for f*** sake.
Last Wednesday night a we tumbled out of Europe, I got text messages from the lads I play football with on a Sunday. I think very highly of these lads but when I replied to one text saying 'United have bigger issues to face than exiting Europe', the reply I got was 'Winning is all that matters'. Again, I'm at a loss to explain this chap's text as he says he's supported Liverpool for 23 years. Does he remember the mid-late 1990's at all? And certainly I don't think winning is everything. Some of my best United memories stem from the 80's when we thought a Cup run and top 6 was great!
For 13 years, Liverpool have delighted in seeing us lose. It has at times been more important than seeing their own team win. For us, the most satisfying this has been stopping them winning as we go on to win things ourselves. Treble busting in 77, the Cup final wins of 83 & 85, and the League Cup win of 91 & the FA Cup wins of 96 & 99.

its hilarious. now we have another Utd fan after Fat Tom this morning, whining about Liverpool, obsessing and starting threads about it. The absolute hypocrisy evident on this forum is nothing short of staggering and must be highlighted. This image that some Utd fans try to project of themselves as "proper football supporters" is a pure fantasy.

f*ck united fans..they're getting as delusional as their red faced manager
they have had everything their own way for the last 13 years with referees falling over themselves to award them penalties to Martin Tyler and Clive Tyldsley screaming themselves hoarse in the commentary box.....now that they're on the slide they have to turn us as ( as we're going in the other direction ).
And it's not just Liverpool who love seeing ye lose it's EVERYONE cause ye're a bunch of classless wankers.......... United fans have completed the trick of being both bad loser AND bad winners...when the lose it's never their fault when the win the feel the need to shove it into the face of anyone around ( when that hairy handed c*nt richard keyes isn't doing it for them ).

Yeah United's success was down to refs - nothing to do with talent.
Good on you.
And Liverpool were just pure class.
Fair enough.
Go back to bed will you.
At least as a REAL football fan I can acknowledge class.
Liverpool in the 80s were class.
Arsenal team that went unbeaten played brilliant ball.
Chelsea's consistency last season was phenomenal.
I dislike most of these as they are our rivals but you acknowledge good football when it is played.
Sad comments on SkySports Commentary (who gives fuck) is just pathetic.
Stand up and respect a could team when it deserves it.
United were brilliant in the 90s.
Super Team, Super effort and top class.
IN 11 or 12 attempts during the "glory years" Utd won the European Cup once. Hardly "top class" in anybodies book

Unfortunately I cannot argue with the success ye c*nts had in the 90's...ye were the best team ( it pains me to say )...but I hate ye anyway due in no small part to...
- Ferguson making quasi rascist comments about italians and dutch before champions league games...no action taken
- The media comparing an ( admittedly good ) save by your red nosed nazi keeper to one made by Gordon Banks against Pele!!
- Two of your players recieving life time bans from FIFA for assaulting a referee while on load at Anderlect...only to have 1 players ban magically quashed ( Ronnie Walwork ) because he required to be on the bench against liverpool in 1999
- The media proclaiming it was the best thing ever when ye were buying players for 30 million, but now that Chelsea do it it's "ruining football"
- In ye heyday it wasn't enough that ye won...ye had to rub the opposition's nose in it...i.e. Cantona and Beckham constantly celebrating in front of away fans ( you can argue they were respondong to abuse, but Robbie Fowler got a three game ban for doing the same ).
- Man Utd fans singing anti liverpool songs when they weren't even playing Liverpool!!
- Clive Tyldsley..that paedophile look-alike screaming himself hoarse everytime ye got a champions league goal with the other perma tanned nazi in the commentary box egging him on.
..........I'm off the have a lie down.

In fairness, as two of the best supported clubs going, you can't make any generalisations about Irish Utd or Liverpool fans, sure, most could just as easily be supporting the other crowd.
I can only speak for myself, I would have rathered Shevchenko had buried that tap-in towards the end but I texted some of the proper Pool fans I knew (including the brother) to congratulate them, something that wasn't reciprocated in 1999. In fairness, the only abuse I got about Istanbul was from two lads who had, respectively, DISOWNED Liverpool last autumn and skipped the League Cup final to watch bloody rugby.
Generally speaking, while we're all prone to lapsing into it at times, the petty jibes are prattish behaviour of the highest order. And before anyone throws back my pronouncements on Chelsea's "Evil Empire", I will refer you to Dave Whelan's comments on the situation as I think he's summed up my feelings in a more level-headed manner and can't be accused of just being bitter that our own "hegemony" has been shattered by Abramovich, as I might be.

Well done Sao Paulo !
Liverpool are just a sad excuse of a club desperate to be where Chelsea ,United status is
as a serious football club.
The jealously at Liverpool goes beyond Manchester they prevented Everton competing in the European cup back in the eighties by there yobish scumbag fans in the Heysel disaster . Juventus fans should be proud of themselves as they kept there dignity unlike ye scally wankers. United never caused any trouble like that in Europe at home or on tour we have decent fans .
Ye should have been banned for life as ye dont know how to conduct yerselves on the European scene .
Scum always sinks to the bottom

don't try and turn this into a battle of semantics in order to try and gain the high moral ground Mr Pendant. Its commonly accepted that Utd fans know more about Liverpool than their own club, they can rattle off a list of slights and perceived slights built up over 40 years.

Yes Pol, coming from the most obsessed of them all
Someone who even board members for years are only realising follows Liverpool now because you are too busy obsessing over Keane et al!
And we won't even mention the "commonly accepted" stereotype of self-pity city.
Because such stereotypes are weak and small time

I'm a football supporter steve. You deliberately tried to steer the topic into the usual "only Utd supporters are proper soccer fans" charade. This facade will be challenged, and challenged strenuously. I know you are a proper fan, so leave it at that, its the other majority of knob jockeys I'm getting at
