Glad that the Socceroos made it to the World Cup. I'll be cheering them on. I'd say they'd be fierce underdogs.

I watched the game last night and I was delighted that they went through. The keeper made 2 fantastic saves in the shoot out and they thoroughly deserved the win. Uruguay did have a few chances very late on to finish it off but luckily they chocked.

Kewell was brought on after about 30 and a few mins later he set up the goal.

There were 82,000 fans in the stadium, they showed clips from Sydney and Melbourne and the support was incredible. I would love for them to go far in the world cup and I really believe they can.

I was in Australia during the last world cup and while all the games were shown on Aussie TV there really was an apathy towards the whole thing amongst the masses. Rugby league was huge - there was a big three game series called State of Origin between Queensland and New South Wales. All the Aussies and the media were totally into this while the WC was only a minor event. It was really only the immigrants who were into it in a big way. It'll be interesting to see the contrast this time around as I will coincidentally be there again when the draw is made on the 9th December. Maybe it'll capture the public's imagination now that their own team is in the competition and raise the profile of the game like it has done to an extent in the USA.

The funniest thing about soccer that I came across when I was there was a book about soccer in Australia entitled "Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters" ([http://www.api-network.com/cgi-bin/reviews/jrbview.cgi?n=174051 1212&issue=6)
by a guy called Johnny Warren. That was the attitude towards soccer in Australia - it's only played by Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters. Maybe that's all about to change.

The crowds seem to be pretty good this season over there.

When i was there back in 99/00 I used to go to the Northern Spirit games, the first 3 games they lost and didn't score. Then the next 3 games they were scoring goals for fun, they had very dedicated fans but not too many. Lots of families used to go. Nicola Berti had just signed for them.

I think they have since merged all the Sydney teams
