By the definition I don't think they are.
For me Poker is a card game.
Chess is a board game.
Neither are sports.
Darts is a pub sport - but is that a real sport?

I'm not saying golf isn't a sport but it hardly requires exertion now does it? I've never even broken a sweat playing golf.

If physical excertion is the definition would snooker count as a sport? Or darts? Or Bowls?(international ) Clay pidgon shooting? Chess?
My original point was its debateable even tho it doesn't fit in with your usual concept of a sport. It is still a game of skill played at an international level competitivly. In fact sometimes between national teams. Therefore Ho Chi dick should not have taken the head off a new poster for letting people know on this forum about competitve games in UCC.
so if you are going to a RUGBY/GAH/SOCCER MATCH WHY DO PEOPLE SOMETIMES SAY "ARE YOU GOING TO THE GAME?"
DARTS IS A SPORT

For somebody who claims to be a 'lurker' you don't seem to have much a fucking clue how things work around here, do ya?
FYI I spoke with the poker dude via PM, and I've pointed a few of my UCC buddies (who are well into their poker, they play every wednesday) his direction. I've also informed some other mates about the guys tournament.
Now you fucking three post wonder fucknutted cuntface, you'll take any verbals we feel like dishing out your direction any fucking time we feel like it or else you can fuck right off. Your purgatory period hasn't been affected in a good way by your initial posting, but stick it out and we'll accept you eventually. Everyone gets accepted eventually- even demi-wums like POL (Sorry POL, but you is what you is, no offence, you do great work. http://www.peoplesrepublico fcork.com/~peoplesr/forums//images/smilie/icon_wink.gif )
Got that?
Good.
Fucking welcome aboard.
And less of the fucking uppityfuckingness.

Classic, classic post/rant of our time!
HCF, I salute you.
Poker not a sport. (Neither is chess.) Poker is a game. Sport is physical activity. Darts and snooker are in-betweeners, because they require physical skill but not exertion. I usually claim that they're games. A good definition is usually whether you'd regard the players as athletes or not. (John Daly hurts the golfers argument here).

chess is definately a sport, takes a lot of endurance and is very demanding.
most of the top players need to keep fit, you could see it when kramnik took on deepfritz, when fatigue set in near the end for kramnik. ..mental fatigue, but this also linked to physical endurance.
