it is so slow when broadband is running.........
I have windows 2000. If I install windows XP, will the pc go faster. Im so pissed off now. When I got broadband 18 months back, things were super fast. It takes an eternity for applications to load off the net........
what seems to be the matter?

...........You may need to do these a couple of times as it’s not advisable to try to clean a system in one go. Make sure you have back ups and rescue disk as necessary and be prepared for the worst. I routinely format everything, maybe once a year or thereabouts and start again all over, not recommended lightly.

Good advice from Zukio. Your HD is full of crap from being on the web. I would max out the RAM also, speeds up the system because it uses the HD less for caching. Does 2000 have that retrospective thingomebob?
Windows 2000 should not be annoyingly slow, it should be transparent, but it needs annoying maintenance. This doesn't happen to Macs, they have their own problems. IMO they are better on the web coz spyware, adware and viruses simply don't work on them. But I digress... Linux is similarly endowed.

You should get spybot and zonealarm and most importantly a virus scanner, chances are your machine is infested and is acting as a mail relay and hence hogging your bandwith.
Also uniinstall any programs that you never use, there's probably a load of crap which starts on boot which you really don't need. If there's programs you need but don't need on startup then configure them not to run in the background. Also defragment your hard drive, and make sure you've at least the same amount of virtual memory allocated as available RAM. Do all of these and your machine will purr like a kitten. And if you need more info www.justfuckinggoogl eit.com (http://www.justfuckinggoogl eit.com) is pretty decent for that.

its probably a C bloackage, what you should do is open windows explorer right click on the C blockage (usually can be shown as C:) and drag this blockage into the recycle bin, then quickly empty the recycle bin, that should sort your problems

if you have any peer to peer software make sure that they have not used your computer to place huge folder in your programme file directory.
happened on the PC in the parents house when the sister downloaded kaza lite.
and the bastard thing had a back up folder so you had to go find that too, otherwise it would just re-download the folder
