i tried to be impartial going into england's game with argentina on saturday night, but after the tenth rendition of god save the queen, rule brittania and you'll never get the falklands, mottys hysteria and horrible visions of the future of decades worth of hyperbollex about the great leader david beckham, rooney being better than pele and sven being bill shankly jock stein and matt busby all rolled into one. i've decided that i want the cunts(terry lampard as well) to fall flat on their faces, hopefully to a last minute penalty from a diving german or argie.

That's my feelings on the subject. "What's it like to lose a war?" "You'll never get the Falklands" etc etc etc.
Add that to the paper's headlines the other day - "World Class"
This time last month they were saying to sack Sven etc, now he's the messiah.
It's triumphalism at it's worst and they haven't gotten over losing the empire which is why every team/person who enters a sport has to win or they have the likes of the Beckham effigy outside the Sun offices.
Christ on a bike they are a sickening bunch.

England are now the bestest team in the world ever and the cup should be given to them now. Becks for King of Engurlund!
Great game though..

he he
the amount of backslapping (as opposed to backstabbing which usually goes on after an england game) on the footy websites this morning is unreal. owen hails rooney, rooney hails crouch, everyone hails sven. christ. and they wonder why everyone wants them to lose. its so we don't have to listen to yis fucking go on about it for the next 40 years (see ingerlands win in 1966)

Sasanach amach ansin?
i've got nothing against them, just wish they weren't such bad winners
I prefer when they build themselves up to ridiculous levels. Makes their crushing defeats all the more enjoyable.

Anyone think Argentina were robbed of a penalty just before Owen's last goal?
I only saw the 2nd half, and Rooney did absolutely nothing. Riquelme was by far the best player on the field.

When is the open-top bus going through Londan?
Have they been preented with the cup yet or what
If John Motson is to be believed they have!

What are the odds on Engerland winning it in Germany ?
It could just happen ??? Apart from Brazil there is'nt any other great team out there right now. Spain might come good for once.

the Czechs will be dark horses if they get there.
news just in that Maggie Thatcher has requested all the team to come by her place tonight so she can thank them for defeating the enemy in the "final" on saturday last

motty is just hilarious, the game saturday was far too open to be considered a proper international, when its a competitive game and theres something at stake like germany next summer it will be far more intense, defensively the argies were awful, cant see them defending a 2-1 advantage like they did in a world cup s/f..

motty's words:
"Wayne Rooney – the key to England winning the World Cup"
"Michael Owen has now broken Gary Lineker's goalscoring record in competitive matches for England"
"Make no mistake about it, the World Cup starts here"

They certainly have a chance.
It was a great match though. One of the best games I've seen in a good while.

england have no chance of winning it. the midfield is too much of a mess, it's all over the place. one minute gerrard is playing on left midfield, the next he's right-back. there is no defensive midfielder who will dictate the games tempo, and beckham drifting in as well, ..any organised semi decent team such as portugal or sweden would have a great chance of beating them in the world cup along with a lot of sides.
plus they look dreadful at the back and not convinced by their goalkeepers.
it was a great game, but argentina had done plenty enough to have won comfortably, and riquelme crespo and ayala had all been taken off before the end.
england like united will rely on a 20 year old to have any chance of progress.

I don't know. Turkey are 250/1 !!, England are poor odds at 7's. I'd back them if i got 20's to be honest.

well, it'll be hard for the turks to pull 2 goals back on switzerland
..about 7 or 8/1 to qualify, i may have a bet on argentina and/or portugal

Turkey down 2-0 to Swiss FFS.
They could be 10,000 - 1 its still a waste of money.
On England they've as good a team as most and Rooney is top notch but due to all the affore mentioned reasons lets hope a Ronaldo dive against portugal for a penalty or something funny (lobbing Seaman) happens again.
We haven't heard the end of 66 yet and only for Portugal practically killing Pele they may never have won it.

England are a little like the Clare hurlers. They haven't the real record of success to exhibit the sort of quiet confidence of a Kilkenny come matchday but have had their highs and optimism with an undercurrent of self-doubt comes out like that. Overreaction to winning and losing. I don't take much notice of them, people mistake the sort of shit that the Sun and, of late, the Beeb come out with for the general mood amongst the English.

I reckon the Dutch are going to put aside their differences for a change and win the thing. Best bet would be to have them all staying in different resorts while they're there.

fancy italy to be there or there abouts, watched them beat a good dutch side saturday night, was impressed with them especially going forward, lippi seems to be more attack minded which is no bad thing when you have the likes of totti cassano del piero camoranesi pirlo iaquinta and the best player in italy at the moment gilardino in your side..

Doesn't look much like WUMming to me Lamps. Straight from the heart if you ask me. I've no problem with a bit of Brit bashing from time to time but I wouldn't then have the nerve to complain about a Brit doing some Irish bashing.

do you think I'd put the same piece out on the Sunday Times??
Liddle has previously gloated about how he and his friends had a great night the night the swiss knocked out the Paddies and wrote something similar around the time of the 2002 world cup. also do you not think its fair that their may be some lingering of resentment amoungst Irish people for what liddle sardonically calls 1000 years of brudish upression. how would people react if he was having a giggle at the coons or the packies??

I don't think it really matters whether it's on the Sunday Times or on here. Any English person could stumble across this site and read a decent amount of threads knocking their sporting teams/personalities and be just as indignant as you are about Liddle.

no1, of course it matters whether its on the Sunday Times or here!!??,
secondly, I was riling, and it was mainly a shit stir, about the english football team, their hooligan fans, newspapers like the Sun, this is whats attracting the vitriol and its not just from irish people. you will find that a lot of fans of english clubs, particluarly the nothern ones have little interest in England affairs and detest the rule britannia crowd as much as any Irish, Scots or Welsh. Liddle on the other hand couldn't give a hoot about irish football, its fans or culture, he just looks out for oppertunities to take cheap shots at paddies, like he did this weak with roy keane.
