Brain Kerr’s tenure as Irish manager fell deeper into question last night when sources close to midfield ace Graham Kavanagh suggested the Wigan man would no longer play for his country as long as Kerr was manager.
The Kavanagh revelation comes hot on the heels of a similar decision by the new Roy Keane, Manchester City’s Steven Ireland. Indeed, the Wigan’s man has quit for a similar reason.
Sources suggest Kavanagh has realised that he wasn’t sufficiently upset with Kerr for not playing him in last month’s clash with France in Dublin.
After hearing the reasons for Ireland’s fall out with the Irish manager, Kavanagh believes that he didn’t make enough of a fuss about his omission from the line up, especially as the game was played in his home town and many of his friends and family had come to watch.
To prevent any further defections from the squad for next Wednesday’s crunch clash with the Swiss, rumour has it that Kerr is considering a squad made up entirely of Dubliners.
