"It was nice when I went to United, everybody welcomed me and I stayed there for
over two months, the manager was very nice to me. After that I went back to
Nigeria and then I went to Chelsea and stayed there for almost a year and things
did not work out and I had to go to Manchester United again. Well, Man U
officials have been visiting me secretly in Oslo and nobody knew about it, they
kept asking me if I was still interested in Chelsea and, kept pressurising me
and won my heart over Chelsea, and then everything happened so fast after that.
Everything went that way due to the fact that Chelsea officials didn’t come on
time for the deal. Yeah, that’s the way it went, many agents are in touch with
me and there is no one that has a complete hold of me, that’s why it happened
that way. But I am happy the way the transfer was handled, despite the fact that
Chelsea will be hurt. Chelsea is also a big club with big money and any player
would love to play for them, and they just won the Premiership, which is any
player’s dream but all the same, I am happy with my deal with Manchester United.
I was told to wait and play with Lyn, instead of moving immediately and training
without a game, the rest of the season in Norway will help me get more
experience and maturity, while watching Manchester United games. That’s why Man
U officials told me to remain at Lyn Oslo, that is no problem, I am happy that I
have to be here for this season and may be by December I will move and start
playing for Manchester in January.” To play with such world stars like that, I
am very happy to be with them and it’s going to be fine. I hope to learn from
them"

17] More Mikel muddied waters
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, August 22, 2005 by db:
from BBC
'Officials of Lyn Oslo have told BBC Sport that Nigeria midfielder John Mikel
Obi is yet to return for work, after Fifa ordered him to return to the club.
The 18-year-old absconded from Lyn in May and claimed the club forced him to
sign a contract with Manchester United, even though he prefers to play for
English champions Chelsea.
Following the decision of Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) on 12 August
that Obi "has to immediately resume duties" with Lyn, the club gave him until
last Friday to return or face possible sanctions.
But Morgen Anderson, Lyn's Sporting Director, told BBC Sport the player is now
expected back this week.
"We have received a letter from the player's lawyer and we are satisfied with
the content of that letter for the time being," Anderson said.
"I do not have any intention of announcing to the media the date of his return,
as I do not want him to face a scrum of media people at Oslo airport.
"After all the controversy, I think that it is time that we try to resolve all
outstanding issues in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
"However, we expect him to feature in our league match against Rosenborg on
Sunday," he told BBC Sport.
"We are also expecting the return of our other Nigerian players, Chinedu Ogbuke,
Ezekiel Bala and Emmanuel Sarki at the same time."
Anderson said the club had "informed Fifa" of the failure of the Nigeria FA to
ensure that Obi returned to Norway immediately after featuring in an
international friendly against Libya on 17 August.
"They did not comply with Fifa's rule requiring that they get the player back to
us 24 hours after the game.
"We have informed Fifa of what has happened and any further action will be taken
by them."
Although Anderson says Obi's transfer to Manchester United will go ahead as
planned, a spokesman for the club declined to comment as "Fifa's investigation
into the transfer is ongoing."

Chelsea refuse to believe they have lost out on John Obi Mikel and will continue to pursue the Nigerian U20 captain until FIFA have finished their probe into his alleged agreement with Man Utd. ManYoo claim their contract is legit, but the player's agent seems to think Mikel can choose which club he wants to play for. One thing is for certain though, even if Utd win the battle for his services, he won't be over the moon about playing for them.

Keep him, close the deal, and then sell him on to Roman's Rent Boys for a €10 million profit.
Going on what happened with Essien, Roman will agree before you can say "what a waste of money."

[4] Sportinglife on FIFA and Mikel

Posted Thursday, September 8, 2005 by db:
'John Obi Mikel's future will not become clear until FIFA have finished their
investigation into his alleged agreement with Manchester United.
John Shittu, agent for the 19-year-old Lyn Oslo midfielder, claims his client
can choose which club to play for.
However, until the probe into the legality of his agreement with United, Mikel
cannot decide who to sign for when the transfer window opens again in January.
PA Sport understands Chelsea are still firmly in the hunt for his signature and
have complied with all of FIFA's requests for paperwork and information relating
to the case.
Although Mikel signed for United, Chelsea were left fuming and quickly offered
the youngster a more lucrative contract.
Lyn Oslo claim their deal with United is legitimate and there are signs the
world governing body will agree.
However, FIFA remained cagey on the possible outcome of the player's eventual
destination next year.
A FIFA spokesman said: "The current status is that upon the request of the
parties involved, FIFA is now looking into the circumstances of Mikel's
relationship with Lyn Oslo and Manchester United.
"However, until a formal decision is taken, FIFA will not be able to give any
further comment on the matter."

'REDS signing John Obi Mikel has written to football's governing body in a
last-ditch bid to have his transfer to United scrapped, according to reports.
Two newspapers claimed at the weekend that the Nigerian wonderkid has asked FIFA
to cancel his contract with the Reds.
The 18-year-old has been at the centre of an acrimonious tug-of-war between
United and Chelsea since May.
The player was ordered back to FC Lyn by Fifa after claiming he had been
pressured into signing for United, saying instead that he wanted to move to
Chelsea.
Last week Lyn claimed the player would be moving to Old Trafford in January.
But the News Of The World and the Mail on Sunday both claim the player has now
written to FIFA to try and extricate himself from his United deal.'

John-Obi Mikel refused to talk to Sir Alex Ferguson when the Manchester United manager went to Norway this week, according to Norwegian newspaper reports.
The Nigerian midfielder was called to the office of Lyn sports director Morgan Andersen but refused to talk to Ferguson, who still insists that Mikel should be a United player after agreeing a £4m move.
Mikel's agents have said that he was coerced into agreeing to sign for United and that he now wants to join Chelsea. He is playing for Lyn until his future is resolved.
The youngster's agent John Shittu is incensed that Mikel was not told he would be meeting Ferguson this week when he was summoned to Andersen's office.
"This proves what I've said before, that Morgan is a dangerous man," Shittu told Aftenposten. "He's exerting the same pressure on the boy now that he did when Mikel was forced to sign on with United."
Shittu called the meeting a "dirty trick" and says Mikel was "shocked" to see the United manager in Andersen's office.
He apparently shook Ferguson's hand but then sat at the opposite end of the office, refused to speak and then quickly left.

Manchester United have called on FIFA to ban Chelsea from transfer dealings and exclude them from competitions if it is proved they helped hijack the John Obi Mikel transfer, it has emerged.
In a nine-page letter to FIFA, United claim they had a legitimate deal with the Nigerian 18-year-old and that evidence suggests agents working for Chelsea caused Mikel to disappear days after signing a contract.
Within days, Mikel's agent claimed the teenager had signed under duress and the contract should be ruled null and void. FIFA have yet to make any decision, but Chelsea have said should that case be confirmed, they would have an interest in signing Mikel.
The letter has emerged from a special investigation to be aired on BBC Radio Five Live on Monday night and the report throws open to question the way in which talented young Africans are taken to Europe and signed up by clubs.
Mikel and three other Nigerian boys had been taken to Norway when they enrolled in the NTG sports school. Mikel had already caught the eye of several top clubs and had trained with Chelsea and at Manchester United's training ground with a Nigerian youth team before, on his 18th birthday, he signed a professional contract with Norwegian side Lyn Oslo.
Just one week later he signed for United, but without any personal representative present. The letter to FIFA admits "as he is entitled to do so, the player confirmed that he did not wish to utilise the services of a FIFA-licensed agent in the negotiations."
According to the BBC investigation, the only people in the room when Mikel signed were Lyn's sporting director Andersen, United academy director Jimmy Ryan, a lawyer representing United and a lawyer from the firm which works for Lyn.
The deal was worth several million pounds to Lyn, but there is a serious moral question in a player, days after his 18th birthday, signing a new contract without an agent or member of his family present.
Lyn's submission to FIFA also claims death threats were made to Mikel.
FIFA say they are waiting for notification that formal legal proceedings in Norway are closed before making a ruling. They have written to Chelsea to ask for their response and it is understood the London club have replied that the allegations are completely without foundation.

Sir Alex Ferguson still believes John Obi Mikel can become a Manchester United player.
The Lyn Oslo star has been the subject of a furious tug-of-war between Chelsea and The Red Devils after United announced his signing last year, only for the midfielder to insist he wanted to join the champions instead.
Mikel again reiterated his desire to head for Stamford Bridge whilst shining for Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations but Ferguson is refusing to back down as he views the teenager as the perfect answer to his midfield problems.
"To be honest, we haven't heard a thing from Fifa," he complained to Sky Sports News.
"It's worrying us. Fifa said they would rely on the court decision and the court decision was in our favour.
"We've been back to Fifa and we've heard nothing.
"He's a marvellous player, a really fantastic player.
"I hope so," he said when asked if Mikel could still wear a red shirt rather than a blue one. "I think we have the right, without question.
"I think if you were to sit that boy down, away from all the pressure he's under, all the supposed threats he's had.
"You ask him who he wants to play for - it will be Manchester United.
"I really do believe that."

mikel's advisors are now adamant that Obi Wan does not want to join united, however much fergie believes so, and that they should simply release him to Chelsea.
i think its ridiculous that Chelsea rob united targets by paying severely over the odds, yet united do it to chelsea once, and they harbour the player and force him into this kind of conflict.
conjecture and speculation many of you may hasten to add, but after following this scenario from day one, i dont see any other way how a happy fella, with a smile on his face and he is signed into the united books and given Forlans old number 21 jersey, can suddenly just say "oh i dont like united now. i like chelsea". are those mysterious london trips still not any coincidence to FIFA is all i want to know....
